Shaky steering wheel
I recently bought a 01 4.4i in April and everything was fine. Handles great and smooth as butter. I started noticing that at around 80mph, the steering wheel would shake a bit and I felt it from the front. So I was guessing it was due to alignment.
Now recently I just installed 215s and put on 275/40's and 315/35's and still had the shakey steering wheel but this time at lower mph (around 40-50). I got the car aligned and it's still the same issue. Can someone give me some ideas on what it an be before I go to the mechanics. I really don't want them giving me a different solution when it's really something else. --- I was thinking that the tires were not balanced properly. Can a unbalance tire cause this to happen? Thanks |
Warped rotors?

I had the same exact problem. It would also start at exactly 80 mph. Turns out it was warped rotors

Warped rotors would not cause a speed related shake unless braking at the time. I would suspect either hub centric rings are required, available from WELCOME TO WUFFER.CA - Home of the BC 8's in aircraft alloy, (no plastic rubbish) or you have worn front thrust arm bushes.

i have the same problem... rotors warped was the cause. Warped also cause shaky steering syndrome while driving as the rotors are not spinning flat and straight and therefore the weight of the rotors are felt when driving highspeeds.

I know my car just needs new brakes. My Brake light came on last week. I've been procrastinating on buying new brakes and a set of cross/drill rotors.
Well I'm also going to get a set of hub centric rings. After reading that the newer X5s do have a different wheel hub size then the older X5s. I have a 2001 4.4i. Does anybody know what size is required for this year? Also recommendation on websites where I can get the centric hubs rings? The site at the top didnt work for me. I will get it replaced and see the verdict. Thanks |
You mean the link didn't actually work, or it wasn't useful?
