taking x5 into dealer for service advice please!

I bought my 2006 x5 4.4, 3 months ago and the mirrors are not folding correctly, the x only has 21k miles on it and because it is still under factory warranty, my friend told me to take it in. i am completely new to this and when i called, the man told me if the microswitch is broken i may have to buy new mirrors costing 600$ each... however now that i have made the appointment i would like to know what are common problems that x5 owners have so i can have them looked at too please! maybe things like wheel alignments? is that covered? advice please! thank you! also do i have to tip someone?

your mirrors should be covered...

he said unless microswitch is broken, then id have to replace, is that true? and if theyre going to charge me $600 each do i have the option of just leaving them?

explicitdwk 06-19-2009 04:32 PM

and common problems or things to point out please?

jayjay_dee 06-19-2009 04:38 PM

they wont waste time looking for the common problems, unless you are actually experiencing them... if aint broke, they wont fix it... or better yet, if you dont tell them whats wrong, they wont fix it...

Just ask Weasel and he will tell you the same... Techs are not authorized to work on something not listed on the issues you gave your SA....something like that...

It should be covered under the factory warrantee. If your dealer wants to charge you for it then just go to another dealer. I've never had any problems in getting things covered and fixed by my dealer.

I just went in for the first time similar to you. Since you've had the car a few months, just note what you feel is not right, and bring it to the attention of the service advisor. All your items may be reasonably covered, so I wouldn't tip - just be polite and ask. Service has been great for me.
For me, they fixed the mirror problem, replaced the radio, replaced an interior light, some PS hoses and checked the transmission. The one iffy thing outside drivers seat bolster. SA told me they don't usually cover that but they would this one time. I had 34k and noticed at some point they replaced the front pads (but not the rotors). So you may or not be close to a pad change. I know my rotors are now right at the minimum and will go back before the warranty expires.

thanks for the advice, but why did they replace your radio? also should i ask for the ps hoses to be looked at or how should i bring about the attention of the service advisor to various parts?
