2001 BMW 4.4L makes burnt smell in interior of the car.
I got a strange problem. It looks like that that everything is working well; however, I am having a burnt smell in interior of the car when I do real intense acceleration even for a short time. For example, if I am driving 50 ml/hr and then accelerate quickly to 70 or 80 for about 10 sec then I am feeling that smell in the interior. There is no any indication of smoke from the car, the oil level is not changing, I didn’t see any leaks of the oil. I am wondering if someone experienced it before and what was that. Any ideas are highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance. |
thats your oilseperator. it needs to be replaced along with your valve cover gaskets if you see them leaking. check your oil level to make sure your not too low

Level is always the same, never changed. I replaced oil separator year ago with all hoses.

how is your coolant level?

Coolant is also good. No change in coolant level.

i have the same problem... my indy shop pin pointed it was the valve cover gaskets! i have yet to get it changed though... i have a similar post here...http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/x5-e53-forum/62934-updated-strong-smoke-smell.html that you can follow

My guess is the valve cover gasket is bad. I just had this type of problem with my 2004 3.0. Turned out to be a leaking valve cover gasket.

Thank you for advices. I'll look into it.
