The 35i is a very special engine. Even in the X6 it will nudge out a 4.4. As for 3-Series, even a 330d will smoke (literally) the 4.4.

i got smoked by a mitsubishi EVO IX yesterday lol :p but it was fun, his car was JDM Spec (Japan Domestic Model) so I kept passing him at 180km/h as his cars fuel cuts off at 180km/h, he just got it so he didnt do all the DME/ECU tunings yet...but 0-180 that car just reaches in a snap....

So the guy comes on here and shares a story how he got smoked by a 335. I don't see the need for blatant criticism, though I can't say that public forums are the best place to express one's manners...

That said, on to the story at hand.

I have "raced" many different cars in my 3 plus years of owning the "Black Beast" and to be totally honest, lost most of them. In my view, the main obstacle to any success is the [in my opinion] worst transmission I have ever had to deal with in ANY vehicle. The 6 speed trans in the 4.8iS is total crap. It has no idea what it wants to do, upshifts and downshifts at just the wrong time... I have tried driving it in S mode, and M mode, and the results are mixed. In S mode, when you stomp on it, it almost always redlines before it kicks into 2nd. Then it takes like a half second or more to go into 2nd, while the RPMs are falling off... By the time you are in 3rd, you are already losing the race...

Contrary to this, I won many more races in my 4.6iS. The 5 speed in that model was nothing short of awesome. The 1st gear jumped and the switch to 2nd was much better, as well as the switch into 3rd...

If my 4.8iS ever blows the trans, I know what I will do...

As far as the 335, it is a wicked car for sure.

Where in Oakbrook? I work on Butterfield Rd. I agree the 6 speed on my 4.4 sucks too...its so confused, the M mode works best.

you are so right, this is also same scenario in my 04' 4.4i with the 6 speed tranny, it delays too long in the red zone and then shifts to 2nd and so on...while in S mode or just stepping down on the gas, I mean I know these trucks are not meant for such aggressive shifts, but I still would love if it shifted quickly in the right RPM so it could hold the torque and gain in the next gear....

I am at Butterfield and Myers.

I used to have a 2002 Speed Yellow Turbo. Had mine up to around 600hp... Kept getting tickets... Ended up trading it in for the 4.8iS... Man, I would love to check yours out. Must be a monster!!!

As far as the trans, it is what it is. The best [and only?] way to even try to give yourself a chance is to manually shift the gears in M mode... Of course, don't forget to turn off the other gremlin: DSC

Had the X for 3 plus years, and am getting tired of it... Graduating from Law School in about a year or so, after which I am going back to Porsches...

My graduation gift? '05 Turbo S coupe. Black, this time. No more funky colors for me. ;)

Nobody told me, including my girl, that she borrowed my car to kick your X5's butt. You have my deepest apologies as, if I were the one driving I wouldn't have raced at all.

I'm currently retired from racing since when I had my '92 Corrado VR6 SLC and this Toyota MR2 had to race me that i used to see all the time pulled up next to me and revved. I blew the doors off of him and as we came to a traffic light in Tallahassee, FL. at Tharpe Street, even though I was slowing and he had clearly lost he still had to pass me and then lost control of the car and slammed directly into the adjacent retention wall across the intersection and totalled his car and his chances of getting some from the girl in the passenger's seat. Tough Break kid!

I still remain undefeated and a loyal member of the Car Acrobatic Team! ;)

Serves him right...he should have gone German!

Anybody else see the Speed Racer commerical with Speed in the GTI, he was right as well. Pops Racer just couldn't compete and neither could the MR2. Oh well! Memories...
