2002 X5 Radio/Satnav & battery dying

Hi,

Got a pretty strange one, about a month ago after coming back from a two week holiday, I had parked the car in an airport car park, when i returned the people at the car park had moved the X5 to the collection point, went to it, loaded the suitcases and.... yep the battery was dead! this being 30 mins after they had moved it. :dunno:

So anyway we got a jump and it started fine, had some lights up on the dash for the suspension and the radio/cd wouldn't turn on but the satnav was working fine.

After we got home... 3.5 to 4hrs drive, unpacked everything and it started fine, nipped out to get some shopping.. suspension lights are now not showing but the radio/cd still not working.

Continues to start fine for the next two days, radio still not working, day 3 and battery is flat again.... Jump start again, runs fine for 4 days still no radio... apart from when the windscreen was getting replaced it came on.... ignition was on, thought woo! tried it again later on and nope back to no radio

The day after.... battery dead....

Figured although the timing is pretty poor these may be separate issues, poss caused by the battery dying or the jump start?

Was the original OEM battery so i went and replaced it, although i knew this wasnt going to sort the radio out i thought at least it will start and not go flat again...... err i was wrong! Flat again a week later! prior to this i had been searching on the net for a fix on the radio/cd issue so whilst i had all the stuff out i tried taking fuses out, reseating the connection under the black panel and discharging the whole thing using the terminals when i was swapping over the battery. Made no difference though.

Pretty stumped, the alarm and imob is drawing 2 amps when locked and the battery is holding a charge when you check it and is being charged fine by the alternator, only fault code was the battery.

The radio power light comes on and the screen is fine, no stations or tuning, satnav is to the right hand side as normal, can hear a slight hiss from the tweaters on the dash, about a week ago the radio power light wouldn't come on and the satnav was playing up a bit but it's OK now and still no Radio/CD.

Anyone got any ideas? :dunno:

Any help would be much appreciated!

Just been looking through the net again... Is it possible that leaving the car unlocked in the two week period would have caused the battery to drain? Causing the problem with the radio, i've read they don't like having no power :\

Did you ever figure out how to stop the hiss? My X5 4.4i has the same hiss out of the tweeters in the door. The stereo can be on or off and it still hisses. I have nav, and no issue with battery or stereo. All works perfectly except for the annoying hiss!

Hey, the X5 is at the 2nd garage now, the first one didna even get as far as the stereo, it's at a BMW main dealer now, I'm away for a couple weeks on holiday, give me a shout at the end of the month and will hopefully have an answer for you!
