Why is climate control/fan always on when starting X5?
Anyone know BMWs reason for this? I find it annoying that everytime I start my X5 after it's been sitting for more than 15 minutes the blower/fan is on. Even if the climate control is off when I turn the engine off it will be on when I start the engine later. My E39 M5 was the same way. Assuming there must be some reason for this???

yeah i was curious my x does that too

I have never had this happen on my X5

Mine does it! Very irritating at times.

Auto
I only experience this when my fans are set at Auto.

BMWvoid, what year is your X5? For me even if I have the system off completely it will be on when I start the car later. Apparently it resets after about 15 minutes so if you start the car only 5 minutes later it will not be in. Every morning the fan is on when I start my X5.

If I am reading your sympthoms correctly... it might be the FSR (Final Stage Resistor) that need to be replaced. I had the same thing happen to mine... the fan had a mind of it's own, including not a set speed and blowing fan even after the car was off. I have a 2002 X5 3.0i. There are several threads here that talk about that at length just do a search.
After I replaced mine, it solved the problem. Good Luck! |
