Thanks for the info, X5 Meister (good to see you back and participating with all the great info you bring.)

Just to let everyone know, I have not taken my X5 to the dealer yet; the problem has stopped on its own. I thought perhaps I had opened/closed the pano roof and it didn't make proper contact before, and now it is making one.

It is going to rain heavily this week in San Jose area (good, we need the water in the region, running dry for the last few years.) I will update again if I see any more leaks.

Just understand that this is a problem that numerous people have had.
One guy I know of parked his X5 (w/ panoramic roof) on a slope such that the front of the car was lower than the rear of the car and an overnight heavy rain resulted in the same roof switch area getting wet and dripping onto the gearshift area. No way it was due to an improperly closed roof. My guess is that the rain overwhelmed the ability of the drains to drain the water.

Well, looks like I got the same issue. It rained extremely hard a couple days ago here in San Antonio. My son jumped in the back seat today and told me the floor was wet. It was SOAKED!! The back passenger side. So, me thinking maybe the roof was closed, reached up and tried the roof. It got jammed!! So now, I got a leak to deal with and a jammed pano roof. :( After I get these two things fixed, there will be an X for sale in the San Antonio area. 2005 4.4i sport package. PM me if you are interested.

Frustrated.

Are the clogged sunrood drains usually problems if your X5 has the panoramic roof?

thanks X5 Miester,
I will continue to monitor for a leak and if I see it again (which I will probably do given the amount of rain we are expecting), I will talk to the dealer and mention the SIB as well.

Just a quick update again... it has been pouring rain here for the last 2-3 days, and I mean heavy rain with X5 parked outside all through it, and today I drove the X5 after 3 days of sitting under the rain and not a drop of rain anywhere inside. I will continue to monitor this. It is indeed strange. I am now wondering if my pouring in club soda into the drain tubes did some cleaning and now water goes down easier through them?? may be they were plugged/dirty before (even though the soda water looked like it simply flowed through with no obstructions?)

Bump to killcrap and weasel, will BMW cover this kind of repair under CPO? (See post # 19)

Would need to double check with our warranty clerk, but I think so...

While inspecting the Sunroof with the dealer the technician noticed that the right side plastic was broken, which exposed the rails the goes down to the motor located in the centre roof console. We are thinking that water gets into this and finds it way down to the centre roof console. I repaired this with some Butenol patch over the weekend. Hope this works.

My next problem is the sunroof viser/shade that sits under the glass won't fully close and the sun roof closes fully but only opens half way.

Any ideas on how to re initialize the sunroof?
