With the sunroof fully closed just hold the button up it the vent position for a couple minutes. The sunroof and sunshade should go through the complete range of movements. Don't let go until all movements are complete.

Ok will try this. Question I have is should the sunshade be fully automatic.

If you have the panoramic roof then yes.

We are thinking that water gets into this and finds it way down to the centre roof console. I repaired this with some Butenol patch over the weekend. Hope this works.

My next problem is the sunroof viser/shade that sits under the glass won't fully close and the sun roof closes fully but only opens half way.

Any ideas on how to re initialize the sunroof?

Davee, can you post a picture of where this "right side plastic" is? I would be interested to check that out on mine.

Sorry for the delay in posting these photos. Photo.jpg is of the left side front sun roof. Note the plastic cover that sits over the rail the sunroof slides in(top left under the sunroof seal). The plastic is dirty from the rain water. Photo1.jpg (right front)has a large part of the plastic that has broken away (hard to see). This exposes the rail and drive chain for the sunroof.

When closed and sitting in the rain the water would potentially leak into the drive rail, then leak down the drive chain to the motor located in the center console, which is where the leak came from. I checked the motor - no damage yet.

My repair was to put a Butynol patch where the missing plastic was because it could be easily moulded to fit. It has just started to rain outside so will be able to test my repair.

Great shots and a clever repair. Wonder how the hell it broke. BTW, BMW used to replace the entire roof 'cassette' when it leaked, however now they have various 'kits' to fix and address different problems. I wonder if one of the kits might be applicable to your situation?

Thanks, the repair job looks real good but if there is a kit at the right price I,d be keen. I,ll need to do some research on what kits are available. Thanks for the info.

I have the SIB on it, I just have to find it...

Not for our cars, but I always thought this one was pretty funny. SIB 540505.
