Oil leak
Hi all, I have noticed an oil leak on the LHS (driver) side of the engine (3.0I), just below the inlet manifold (maybe 5 or 6 centimeters (2 in.) below the front side of the manifold). This is not the cam cover gasket (I checked). What could it be?

i just had this too today, no warning no nothing on the dash, and its leakin alot :S

There are 3 things in that area that can leak oil...
1: the oil hose that goes from the front side of the head to the oil filter housing. #15 2: The oil filter housing gasket (where filter housing meets block) #6 3: The crankcase vent valve (especially the bottom hose #4) Cyclone valve |

The leak came from the OS bottom hose, so Waesel was right on option 3! See picture below and notice that with such a failure, these engines are quite good character as it still ran fine except a rough idle! |
Good info Weasel,Mine turned out to be #6 also know as the (oil stand gasket)

do u know whats the cause or the digram for the 4.4i:dunno: |
Yeah, those were for the OP who has the 3.0i. There are many gaskets/areas that can leak on the 4.4i, and there are 2 different 4.4i engines available depending on model year etc.

How about an oil leak dripping from the drain plug cover? The drain plug door cover thing is bent down. I dont know how this happened. Maybe driving over deep snow, or perhaps the Mr. Lube pros dont know what they are doing.
I hope my drain plug threads are not stripped. When I leave the car in the garage over night, by morning there is a new oil stain about 10 centimeter in diameter on the floor. Also right in the center of the underside of the engine there are drips of oil collecting. |
