Another victim of cracked wood trim

Just when I felt my X5 was perfect I noticed a crack on the passengers side wood trim panel. :thud: Time to visit the dealer :(

Is this covered under CPO?

I have that all around the cabin, and I'll say more seeing that means that somebody had some work done on the doors or under the console.
I am wondering why they put the aluminum as the base of such a sophisticated piece?
Something rigid would do better job

I did a nice writeup on Bimmerforums how I took off all my woodtrim (cracked and not) on my 7 and was able to get a brushed aluminum look that is a dead match to the E46 trim. If they don't cover it and you're looking for a weekend project, let me know and I'll dig up the post.

Does anyone know the usual causes of the wood grain trim cracking? I have looked at two model year 2005 in the past 2 weeks and both had cracked trim on the driver's door.

Fast and careless removal

Temperature cycle of the interior from below zero in the winter to over 130F in the summer with all the windows closed. Aluminum expand at a different rate compare with the wood veneer and the clear coating over the wood.

No from people flinging their seat belts when unbuckling.
