Yes, our 2001 X5 3.0i has reached a milestone this AM. The odometer turned 200,000 miles this morning!! Yes, I know there are other X5 owners that have over 240K+ miles on this board with good running X5s. Just thought I shared this milestone with all you former Roadfly, X5 Wrld, Xoutpost members!!

Ahhh Congrats man! I'm only 50k but we'll get there soon! Our plan is to keep the X well past 100k so fingers crossed. She's CPO'd 'til 2012.
So, how's the X riding after 200k? How about a list of major repairs and the current status? Ok only if ya want... Congrats and happy motoring!!! |
Just getting warmed up...

Congrats! Running on the original tranny??

Replaced with official BMW remanufactured auto tranny @ 137K miles. I did do ATF flush with Redline ATF @ 121K miles (probably should have done it sooner, but at that time in 2005, I was getting so many different opinions...) 2001 X5 had "lifetime" fluid, which later I found out BMW's definition of "lifetime" is 100K miles.
Anyhow, even today, the BMW dealers balk about changing tranny fluid, but I would probably use BMW specific ATF fluid. Mind you, I had an automatic tranny 325is with ATF fluid flush every 30K miles and guess what, the tranny lasted till 295K miles with no problems. Quote:

I will be hitting 170,000 miles on mine in the next couple weeks. When people get into the vehicle and glance at the odometer they always think it reads 17,000 miles, since it still looks and drives like it has a much lower amount of miles. Despite the occasional maintenance items, I still love this vehicle!

I'm an advocate of tranny flushes myself, hopefully they keep lasting you as well. |
