Congratulations Marc, I have taken mine in for service twice past the 4/50 warranty (under CPO) with no problems. I'm sure Wagner knows what he's talking about, but it looks like BMW is either not keeping up with it or doesn't care. Now the only issue you might have is getting a loaner. The dealer I was using changed the policy to where only '06+ or vehicles purchased at their store get a loaner.

Thanks, Scott and everyone else who gave feedback. I read the post by X5Meister in '09 in which he attached images of the actual CPO documentation: Xoutpost.com - View Single Post - CPO Program question . From what I can see, the info on the "Vehicle Registration" page looks like the data I had faxed to me from the local BMW dealer. All I need to do is review it VERY closely to make sure I know how much I'm giving up from my extended warranty vs CPO. Example is that I know my extended warranty covers electronics such as Nav, but from what I've read the CPO doesn't cover anything they consider to be an accessory. So it's not as cut and dry a decision as I first thought.

Good point Marc, I have had one electrical item fail (was causing batt drain) about a month after my 4/50 and it was goodwilled. I suppose if you think you'll have >$1500 worth of non-covered items it would be worth it to keep both. I would rather add running boards and a trailer hitch.

CPO will transfer to any owner, dealership or otherwise.

When I was buying my X5 I called my local dealership with the VIN and they had all sorts of info on it. I also specifically questioned the CPO status and they said that once it is certified it remains in the program until it expires.

... or it is
- reported as stolen
- determined to be a total loss by a qualified person
- suffers significant damage as a result of collision, flood or water infiltration

or
- if the VIN has been altered or cannot be read
- if the odometer has been replaced, altered or rendered inoperative and the true mileage of the automobile or light truck cannot be determined
- if the automobile or light truck has been declared a total loss or sold for salvage purposes
- if the automobile or light trunk has been used in any competitive event.

Ding, ding, ding .. and the answer is ... I used my light trunk in a competitive event! :rofl:

Picky, picky, picky LOL!! Thankfully my X falls into none of those categories, so I think I can sleep well tonight safe in the knowledge I've got my CPO in force:-)
