Same thing happens to mine every so often. Was yours fixed under regular warranty or CPO and what did they mean by "charge" building up?

Not sure if this is related though, mine used to tilt down but not come up. They said that a charge was building up in the wires and they replaced the whole thing under warranty. '06 4.4 here.

mine does this every so often. kinda weird. if you turn off the car and turn it back on and put in in reverse and put it back in drive, it will come back up. Or you can push your seat memory button and it will come back.

BTW, to the OP question, its a bad mirror motor. The correct way to fix is described by Bimmer Ese. My BMW Tech buddy says this is a known issue and that kit he mentions is the one you need to purchase. Personally, just leave it alone if it doesn't bother you too much. Most likely it will reoccur.

My auto-tilt mirror would go down, then would not return to it's original position. Brought it into the dealer, they replaced the motor under warranty. 1 month later... now my mirror is doing the "freaking out" as described by the orignal poster. Will motorize up and down fast continuously as if something is obstructing the motor from letting the mirror go down.

going to schedule an appt for the dealer today. I have 48K miles on my 06 =(

i hope i can get this fixed in time under warranty. will keep you updated.

And people would permit these vehicles to PARK themselves. LOL!

I could've sworn I read something on this and there was a fix that did not need the motor replaced. Let me see if I can search and find it again.

Nevermind, that was for the power folding mirrors not staying folded.

What I did was move the mirror around manually and "loosen" things up a bit and after that both mirrors started working much better again. I dunno, I'm tired of replacing shit on the X5 so I tried this first.

Btw, BMW warrants their parts for 2 yrs so I wouldn't worry about it getting fixed again before your warranty is up.
