ECU Upgrade
 

Have any of you ever installed this ECU upgrade http://www.powerchipgroup.com/ on your X5? If so, is it any good or worth it?

Never had it done but did think about it.However you need to consider whether or not your gearbox will take the extra torque. X5 gearboxes are prone to problems and from what I have seen on this forum it may struggle with the extra lb.ft.:dunno:

Never had or heard of any experience with it but I would say go for it if you want to. Regarding the X5 gearboxes being prone to problems . . . every other part on the X is prone to problems too. It is a fact that several parts on the X are going to break . . . it's an X5. If you want to go fast in between parts failures and repairs . . . go for it!

I would strongly suggest going Dinan. Check out Dinan | BMW Performance Parts, High Performance BMW Parts, BMW Tuning Parts. You could get the engine and tranny software for less and you won't have to remove your ecu and ship it. Just go to a Dinan dealer and they upload the software on the spot.

After Dinan, my next choice (in the USA) would be Jim Conforti's "Shark Injector". There are lots of suppliers that sell that. Here's one link.

It's good, but it doesn't cover all that many models.

I agree that it probably doesn't cover as many models as Dinan but there are other suppliers that could be looked at too.

Not sure what the OP's budget allows -- that's why I brought up Jim Conforti's. I had it in my last two 3-series and it made a big difference.

repoman you really need to get rid of your x5...lifes to short... lol....

the powerchip is more expensiv but they claim 18hp verses dinan's 8.

I've got a custom PowerChip tune on my E39 M5 and will probably get one for the X5 as well but not anytime this year...

The only downside is you'll have to pull the ECU out and send it over to them...
