Memory seat q

Hey guys, search was done but no good direction. For some reason, every time I get in my X I have top press #1 on the seat to go back to where I want it. Is there any way to leave this setting as default so I dont have to press it everytime I drive?! Very perplexing!

diyanich 06-04-2010 09:00 PM

hi,put your key in the position 2,but don't crank put your seat the way you like it to be and press M and desired # ...it should stay there the next time you unlock.
good luck

drpookiemd 06-04-2010 09:13 PM

wow, it did the trick! no more hassle! thanks for taking the time to reply :)

I tried this on mine and worked on just 1 click for the drivers door, but if I double click it to open the rear doors it goes back to a previous setting. Weird.

Might be in the car key memory. Might not be set for both keys.

pdabbs911 12-16-2010 08:29 AM

Thanks for the Tip. I will check that out.

Hey mywidebody02,

My key works on all the other options ie... ignition, trunk, lock, unlock, except when I double click it to open the passenger doors. It is then that the driver seat will go to this full seatback and reclined position. If I unlock the trunk then open the drivers door(1 click), it will do it also. If I just unlock the drivers side and no other clicks, the seat will remain where I left it. Weird. I searched key programming, but those threads seem to be for keys that don't respond at all. I need to get this figured out or quit taking the children to school. They would love that. Thanks for the help.

U need the GT1 to check this but this is what it is. default for this is not active.

Seat Settings
(Mirror memory is available on E46
vehicles since 09/99 production)
when unlocking
when opening a door
not active

The automatic seat adjustment is activated by the specific key being used if the vehicle is
equipped with seat memory. Setting in Car Memory defines when the actual adjustment
starts: when pressing unlock button on remote, or when opening the door.

I did get access to the link you posted and made a hard copy to read through. I will get that form downloaded also. Thanks for the help with this thing.

GT1 is a unit and program the dealer uses to diagnose and program the vehicle modules and memory.

Just wanted to say:
I love this site :-) specially the responses, I was hoping no one calls out pdabbs911 for not knowing about GT1.

bringing back an old thread...i think my module is on its way out...memory positions don't seem to work...steering doesn't remember...and literally now...the forward and back, up and down buttons seem to be backwards? any ideas on that?

pdabbs911 01-06-2011 08:06 AM

Not sure exactly how I did it, but mine was working fine for 3-4 weeks until my wife drove it the other day. Now it goes to her preset all the way forward. I am interested to know what your solution will be. I wish I could help you more, best of luck.

Helmuth 01-06-2011 09:07 AM

Hi,

maybe you try this: http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...-position.html

No idea if it works but it might be an additional chance.

Good luck.

gitchies 01-06-2011 12:07 PM

strange, it was working last night...then today, nothing can't even move seat forward and back or recline....like its broken!!! but strange how last night it was moving.....just opposite, when i push the seat to go forward, it was moving back...when i pushed it to move back, it went forward, same with the recline....i'm gonna try the fuse

pdabbs911 01-07-2011 07:02 PM

 I tried the link Helmuth has above and it worked great. I printed that page and it is now in the glove box for future reference. Thanks for the help.

I just had this exact problem in mine. I replaced the seat control module and now everything is perfect.

joeboch348 01-07-2011 08:25 PM

i just realized about a week ago if you hold the unlock button on the key, all the windows and sunroof open. duh
my memory seat works fine except the steering wheel. i have to telescope it out everytime i get in the car.

And on mine, if you hold the lock button, they all close ;-)

Don't worry, your seats will stop working soon enough.

pdabbs911 01-08-2011 11:10 AM

DIY that seat module if you can. It might help a few more people (probably me at some point). It may already be done though. I haven't searched for it. Nice tuna avatar joeboch348.
