Hi all,

Just want to share with all the members here all you need to have led tail lights is 6800UF 25V Capacitor one on each side will do the trick.

Can a 6800uF 50V be used? TIA!

Yes it can. The voltage is the maximum rating and our cars are no more than 15v.

Thank you for your answer. As i got the sonar smoked led taillights for my 2006 E53 and they are flickering, i will apply the capacitor patch and see if it solves.

i thought those LEDs are flickering due to adaptive (?) brake lights... when you brake harder, they light up harder?.. isn't there a line in the programming for the LED tail lights? did anyone try the programming way? could it be that the car is already "pre-programmed" for LED tail-light, and it just needs to be activated? i don't have LEDs, so i can't test it... :(

Sarb,
thank you for the hint. I do have a E53 4.8is 2006 and got the Sonar - Spyderauto LED taillights.
Due it's flickering, i contacted Sonar and they told me to add a 10 R 25 W resistor to each side, which i found strange.
Well, today i added the 6800 mF 50 V capacitor to each side (wires green and black from the taillight harness) and it worked perfectly.
No more flickering and steady bright red leds.
Thank you again for your post.
Solved all with US$ 15.00 (equivalent in Brazilian Reais).
BR,
Paulo

Nice write up Sarb, I'll be installing a set of the latest Depo Halo headlights and I also want LED front corners. I may install some switchback LEDs, I searched the forum but came up empty, seems nobody is using them on this site. I have them in the front corner lights on my 1999 C5 Corvette, they are a wildly popular upgrade on the Corvette.

I tried installing the switchback LEDs just last week. Didn't work :( They light up and stay Amber. No flickering though which was odd since everything else does. Need to get the car coded asap.

Paulito, could you please post a picture of the capacitor install? Where did you mount it? Does it get very hot?
Thx
