Need your input, experts...

I own a 2005 BMW X5 3.0i. 59,000 miles.

I have really enjoyed owning this car. My CPO coverage and maintenance expires in about 6 months.

I'm considering trading in my X5 for an Acura MDX (2008). Why? I'm concerned about the cost of maintaining / repairing my X5 in the future. I've seen lots of $6-$7K transmission threads, and lots of other high repair costs that concern me.

Am I overly concerned here? I'm fine with setting aside some $ for repairs, and on the whole am pretty happy with my X5 - just want to make sure I'm not setting myself up for big repair costs in the future.

Thanks for any input you can provide.

PS - the wood trim on the door of the drivers side door on my car is cracking - has anyone else had this happen?

I'm not an expert here...
1,First of all the new design of the Acura MDX trying to looks mean = FAIL.

2,If your X5 is paid for then i say keep it even if you have to repair it monthly it's still cheaper then new/used car payment, as the tranny on the 3.0i i'm not too worries about it.
3,The wood trim is cracking is an normal thing...

i'd personally keep the X5, granted Im' a newbie - the Acura Honda products have some extremely high maintenance, such as the freakin VTM fluid change and constant worry about tranny and other oils. Great cars but the new designs are also a fail. They are too fragile esp the 4wd/awd versions. My wife has a Pilot, which is the same as an acura mdx but different body - and we love it except the maintenance every few thousand miles sux.

Wanted to follow up - I came to my senses and decided to keep my X5. It ultimately came down to the fact that I couldn't fall in love with the styling on the MDX, and I really do love driving my X5. Will just bank some repair $$$ and hope for the best.
