Need your input, experts...

I own a 2005 BMW X5 3.0i. 59,000 miles.

I have really enjoyed owning this car. My CPO coverage and maintenance expires in about 6 months.

I'm considering trading in my X5 for an Acura MDX (2008). Why? I'm concerned about the cost of maintaining / repairing my X5 in the future. I've seen lots of $6-$7K transmission threads, and lots of other high repair costs that concern me.

Am I overly concerned here? I'm fine with setting aside some $ for repairs, and on the whole am pretty happy with my X5 - just want to make sure I'm not setting myself up for big repair costs in the future.

Thanks for any input you can provide.

PS - the wood trim on the door of the drivers side door on my car is cracking - has anyone else had this happen?
