Chrome ring advice?
 

So I noticed the article on this board shows E39 pics or something. Can anyone tell me if there is a big difference in installing the rings on an E53? Im dropping the hammer this cold and frosty morning and saying what the heck...Ill give it a shot...:nervous:

I installed these in both the E39 and the E53 (same rings).The E39 cluster is a bit harder to get out,thats all!
Quick tip that will assist you greatly in installing the rings.With a 120 grade sand paper,sand off a bit on the inside of the rings.You will find that they will snap in perfectly.

My rings snapped right in, without sanding or shaving anything. My suggestion is to try it first. It might just work without extra effort.

NO!!You will just shave off a bit on the inside that snaps in ,which is not visible!All you will be doing is sanding off the imperfections when the rings were cut made!Sand paper is weaker than aluminium,you couldnt shave off anything!

Thanks guys..Unfortunately since its friggin dark here by 4 pm, by the time I finished contemplating it started to get dark..Tomorrow morning for sure..So the torx driver is the only "special" tool needed right? Tim Allen I am NOT. This is like jumping off a cliff for me....:nervous:

I would recommend heating up the + tabs with a hair drier to soften them up a bit before you start twisting them around - you'll see what I mean when you get there...

I didn't do this and I broke one of my tabs. GL!

Bozo, seriously easy mod, use an Xacto or razor blade to shave the plastic on the gauge cluster if the fit is too tight. Joll has some kick ass pics of his install in his gallery.

The T10 wrench is the only special tool you need. I heated up the chrome rings to expand them rather than shaving them. And it popped in there easily. The hardest part was twisting the x tabs and taking the clips apart, but you will get the hang of it, no major problems, simple mod.
