I biffed my drivers front tire driving in the snow!!! HELP!!
 

With the first snow, I got a bit cocky and bent the front tire and screwed up the alignment :mad: :banghead: !!! Driving too fast in the fresh fallen snow (about 25 mph) with regular tires on 19", car slipped and BAM into an embankment on the other side of the road. I'm OK but the X will need some help. The body look perfect, got a bunch of dirt in the rims and some grass/dirt between the tire and wheel, the tire has a small air leak. What do you all think?? Is this something that will be about a grand or more to fix :dunno: ?? Anyone has experience with this sort of thing!!

Road tires suck in the snow!! They are banana peels!!

Here are the pics (THIS JUST HAPPENED ABOUT AN HOUR AGO). You can see the alignment messup, I didn't turn the wheel at all, this is how the car is parked, and if I drive how it will track. Sorry about the last one, the digital camera is on the fritz.

Man, that stinks! I would take it in right away. If you are lucky, nothing is really broken, and it just needs realignment.

it looks like you have a bent control arm and/or rim. do you have a leak in the rim cause its cracked? is it out of alignment?? is the tire side wall damaged??

you need a new control arm, rim, and wheel. you need to remove the rim and check the entire assembly.

also, those rims/tires are inappropriate to be in any snow other than a dusting (or this will happen to you).

i got caught out yesterday with my 20s and it snowed, and i was very unhappy driving in the city. i am putting on my 18 inch rims w/ snows this am.

how do i know this? i over estimated my speed in a turn and did the same thing to my SNOW wheels and tires last year. wound up replacing the same as i listed. check the articles section for the DIY on the control arm.

I think the leak is only because some grass and dirt got shoved inbetween the rim and the tire. The tire looks fine and I drove it about 5 miles like this. (Not recommended) The rim does not look cracked at all. It is definately out of alignment!!

there is NO WAY you can drive something between the rim and the tire. there is something called a bead which requires MORE FORCE than what is needed to bend the rim to break (the 'seal'). there is something more wrong. trust me on this one!

unless there is a foreign body puncture....

I took a closer look at the rim, and it seems that it is barely scratched, cn't see anything wrong with the tire (except low air pressure). Will have to get it towed in monday or buy the part myself and fix it when I have time next weekend. Right now the dealerships are closed till monday.

As suggested in your previous post question: Snow Tires. And, probably on something smaller than the 19s.

From those pics there's no way the 19" Diamaris can survive on snow like that. Here's another vote for proper footwear for your X: dedicated winter tires and rims.

would they survive in a slushy/snow environment. Im taking my X up to whistler and im not tryin to be skidding out everywhere if theres like ONE INCH of snow on the ground, will the AWD help a little bit.
