hualingan

2 Attachment(s)
hi to all:

i was talking with another technician re: my Hualingan problem, theres video but no sounds coming out. He said maybe the other installer removed my Alpine BMW iPod interface cable of which should have not been remove in the first place. I browse xoupost and saw a link of the said BMW iPod interface, but it didnt show or instruct where to put those 4 color pin into the 40 pin harness. ( http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...ion-guide.html )

Does anyone have a link or guide on where to put these 4 colors pin into the 40 pin harness. Thanks in advance

Wow, I had no idea you had to rewire for this iPod connector. I learn something new about this vehicle everyday. Sorry, I can't help on this one. But at least it looks like you have narrowed down the issue.

I think the other technician is wrong on leaving the iPod connector in. More than likely it is designed to only work with the MID and radio. I think you are going down the right path trying to figure out the original location of these wires.

So the installer removed the iPod connector and just left these wires hanging free?

thecount123 11-27-2010 10:26 AM

Hi NextGen:

Yes, I believe the problem is the other technician removed these 4 pins where in fact he should not and done so. Also, he didnt make any notes on which color is for which pin etc.

So when the Hualingan unit doesnt have any sound, I ask him to put back the original stereo and it was not functioning anymore ( radio not working) as he have no idea on how to put these 4 pin back. Lesson learned, don't just trust any so called " expert" on X5 even no matter how nice is their shop.

Upon talking with another technician and explaining to him on what happened, seem he make more sense as he suspect the problem is on the 4 pin being removed. Another thing that concern me is that for these 4 pins, he said 3 are positive and one negative and the first technician just leave them as is without putting any electrical tape on each pin/s.

At any rate, so excited to have stereo again in X5. Currently using iPod while driving *wink

I hope someone will have an instruction on how to put those 4 pin back.

Larry, PM me the guy and store who did this to your X. Oh by the way, I previously had a DICE iPod integration kit, and previous to that, I also used a GROM. The wiring harness that came with these iPod integration kits were completely disconnected from my system. I just connected the Hualingan harness to the ORIGINAL wire cluster - without error. The only difference is that I did it myself. Sometime when you want it done right, we have to do it ourselves!

Also, if you are open to it, bring your X to Sanny / Victor of SNYC3. They know what they're doing there specially on BMW's. If everything fails...let me know, I have a "real EXPERT" fix your system. However, logically...it will cost you an arm. Don't gamble your BMW in Banawe or Cubao pare ko. Good luck.

Hi fullmetal:

Thanks so much. PM sent. Thanks

If all else fails then consider taking it to the dealer. Since there are no parts involved they should just charge you for labor to put those pins back in.

thecount123 11-28-2010 02:52 AM

hi guys:

Finally the 2nd technician was able to put back the 4 pins into their respective places and put them back into the 40pin harness. After which, he put the old stereo back and the radio is now running.

Upon putting the hualingan harness into the BMW harness. No sound came out of the radio. What he did was , on the hualingan harness, there are 4 loose colored cables. He put two of those cables into different pins. I believe one of those is for the radio and another for the wheel steering. Finally there is sound in my radio. I also tried the stereo control in the wheel steering and its working perfectly. Upon pairing my phone, the phone bluetooth is working as well as the other party can hear me loudly ( and vice versa).

a. What need to be done on the other 2 loose colored cable that comes in Hualingan harness? Are they of any use? Where should i put them?

b. Things that are not working

1. iPod - once iPod is connected, it can show my iPod playlists and once I click on a song, screen will show and running, but no sounds coming out of the speaker/s.

2. CD - once I put the CD, it can read the CD and track is running and seconds are counting( and i didnt put in mute), but no sounds coming out as well.

The tech said all his electrical wiring are correct, bec if not, there will be no radio sounds and phone bluetooth sounds. What do you guys think the problem is?

3. TV - there is a TV antenna plug on the stereo ( besides the iPod connector plug) but no cable/ plug etc that comes with the packaged. What do I need to buy to make the TV run. What else need to be done.

4. NAV - not sure how to make it run.

Thanks,

@thecount123 - I forgot to suggest this to solve your disappearing audio for DVD, iPod and others. Just try this out. I'm not sure If it will work but go and click...

Settings -> amplifier -> adjust individual volumes slide switches for iPod, DVD, etc.

Go to this screen...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/432ee4ef.jpg

I suspect that the individual volume settings for each have been altered.

Let me know how it goes. No hurt in trying.

Alesha007 12-05-2010 02:54 PM

spdif

Greetings.
Instead of thought to connect through SPDIF. In this case questions on volume control wouldn't be. In Hualingan in the menu is SPDIF means should be and inside, it is necessary to find it only. And in DSP and in the radio module spdif precisely is.

thecount123 12-07-2010 09:42 AM

Thanks full. Funny, i just change radio country to Latin America and everything just worked ( aux,iPod, dvd etc ). Thanks for thr inputs

Good to hear you finally solve your problem. Mine is set to China region.

2 quick queries:
1.How was Owen's map installation?
2.does your iPod interphase on screen show Chinese characters instead of playlist, song, artist, genre, etc.?
Please see screenshot below showing Chinese characters...

im really stumped guys, i did the whole factory reset and switched to latin america on the radio and all i get it sound from the dvds but no video playing, i can hear the sounds but nothing else. any tips??

Can I resuscitate this issue? I installed the same ipod adapter oem with the 4 wires and same color code wiring. I have an 03 525i w/DSP and there weren't 4 wires on the adapter - leaving out the white/purple wire.

I thought I hooked the other 3 correctly but now looking at the number above I think they are wrong.

Nonetheless, I had ipod controls just no volume. The volume is working on CD as well as radio...

Any thoughts? What are the wires EXACTLY for? I know brown is ground...

Has anyone got the Hualingan unit to work completely, with no draw backs. From what I have seen, iPods don't display, there are volume issues and volume adjustment issues, bluetooth quality issues?

I am interested in buying one, but after all the issues I have seen you boys have with your systems, I'm a little worried.

Do you have DSP on your current X5 Radio?

No, as I don't have an X5 yet... I'm shopping at the moment. From what I can gather, it is a bit more seemless on a non DSP car?

The unit really looks the goods on the demos etc, just hoping all the issues get ironed out.

Hi:
I'm new to the forum. I just got a Hualingan for E46 and installed on my 2001 325. It works beautifully except the GPS has an error message of "Map file cannot be found". I purchased the unit with SD card loaded with US map, but apparently there are only .3dl files in the map folder. I'm contacting the seller. Meanwhile, may I ask you to post your working software, or tell me where can I download them? Thanks!:p:

NextGen 12-30-2010 05:09 PM

Hi tony1110 and welcome to the forum. Since you have an E46 you might want to check out e46fanatics.com. Although they tend to favor the dynavin, the navigation software works the same on both units. Do a search for dynavin on their site.

If all you need is maps for your software then you may find what you need here WORLD MAPS iGO 8.3.x : iGO AMIGO : iGO PRIMO

Many thanks, NextGen! I do find good thread on e46fanatics - for Dynavin though. Anyway, right now all I need is the map files. I followed your link and the files aren't there. They have links to mirror sites, but also say files deleted. Any other places?

NextGen 12-31-2010 03:16 AM

You have to check back at that site periodically. Basically it is a cat and mouse game. The poster will put the links out there and then the host will delete them. I just went out there and the links are working again.

By the way these maps are for iGo 8.3 or iGo Primo. If you are still using 8.0 that came with the unit then these will not work. Primo seems to be the best one.

If you want a version of Primo try this link - iGO Primo Issues/Tweaks/Systxt thread - Page 6 - E46Fanatics. See post 104.

There is a sw called Voice Command for windows mobile which works very well for mobile phones. You can try to install it and see if it's dialing although the HL is not a phone.

Hi everyone, another newbie joining the group. I am very interested in this plug and play unit, so I have been doing all the research that I can. I have read every single posting in this thread. It is beginning to sound like the plug and play part is fictional, given the postings about dash trimming and wire extensions, and gps not working, antenna's not working, chinese characters on the ipod functions and so on...Do you think there are quality issues here, or is it inexperience with the product? There was enough positives that I still want the unit, but I don't think I want the problems of installing myself? Does anyone know where I could have this unit installed in Toronto?

This is not a perfect unit but good enough for its value. I am not aware of any GPS or antennas not working. I sold a few in Toronto, most of them installed it them self. I will see if I find the guy that had it installed by somebody else.

external mic

I purchased the Hualigan unit from Allinmotion and had issues when I installed it. No sound, and the touch screen controls did not work properly, and the right dial felt a bit weird. allinmotion sent me out a new unit, I plugged it in the other day and everything is working great. I love the unit and a thanks to allinmotion for the great customer service!

I have the external mic [not installed yet], but was wondering if I can connect to the stock mic up, I am assuming I have one by the rear view mirror, as this would save me running some wires. My 2005 x5 has some bmw assist and phone buttons, and what appears to be a microphone slott?? [that is why I assume I have a mic.] Anybody have any experience with this?

Havent totally finished the install yet, just waiting for my sub, box, and amp to arrive from Allstsrrd. I will also bed installing a backup camera

thanks

Even though I do test every single unit before I ship it out this particular problem was tricky. The unit was working perfect for about 5 minutes and then ran into the problems above.
To use the OEM mic is not possible. The OEM mic is sophisticated and designed to work only with the OEM components controlled on iBus.

On your MID you have an AUDIO button. If this button has also a label DSP then you have DSP. If you have only AUDIO or you don't see anywhere DSP then you don't have it.

I think you are referring to the model that would fit on e38.
I was told that they didn't bring enough revenue with e39 model to support the R&D to finish the e38 project and the market is not as big as the e39 or e53.
They released the e39/e53 model only 6 month ago and the first shipping was in Sept/October. So, it's pretty new.
So, as far as I know now there is nothing new coming out for e39 or x5. e90 is next on their plate.

Not sure, though what you mean with the crappy NAV. You can install any mapping sw you wish that works on win CE. The unit comes with iGo which I find it very good with a lot of features.

Digital Signal Processing (Processor). The option of the sound system. It should be a feature in the main menu and a subwoofer (at the right of the trunk under the cover).

E53 PROBLEM

Rough translation from Google Translate, Italian to English

I installed a 8786 hualingan on E53, but I find the following problems, I discharge the battery if I leave the machine stops for a while ', consumes too much even when turned off. Sure he is, I changed the battery and it does the same, then I left off and I can not download more.
I midificato the cable and put it all locked up and I did not discharge the battery more, but I have a strange problem with sound that you can not adjust is by volume and even if the commands change the scale of the volume, the sound that comes out is always the same.
Someone can tell me something?

Hualingan - Radio and Illumination Key not working

I just installed the unit. I did factory reset under setting. The FM/AM radio does not work. Also, the lights on the buttons do not light up.

One thing I notice is the "Key Light" Icon under setting disappear.

Can somebody help? I may erase something in the memory of the unit when I did factory reset. If you have the firmware, I would appreciate it if you can send it to me.

or Do I need to connect the orange wire called "Illumination" to anything?

Thank you

why is it that most hualingan install has problems/issues, is it the product is inferior quality or are they selling bad/broken products ???. scared to buy a unit maybe i should wait for TV-IN-Motion replica and see if its any different.

Generally speaking it is not the level of quality you would desire for something that is to be placed in a luxury automobile. The Dynavin is no better. They both have their issues. You need to do a thorough review before you purchase either of these because there are many surprises. The good news is that most of them have been documented.

I was excited by TV-In-Motion's potential until they put that negative comment on their website discouraging potential customers to contact them. They then followed that up by cutting off all communication. The last newsletter was sent out 4 months ago in October 2010. That thing is vaporware. I'll bet they couldn't get the IBus interface working.

fraserp 02-10-2011 09:04 PM

yea-- I did see the negative feedback on TV IN Motion and totally agree with you. maybe i should wait it out for a while. --- thanks

NextGen 02-12-2011 01:29 AM

It was a tough decision, but I went Dynavin. I hope Hualingan gives us a mounting bracket one day as I prefer the 7" screen over Dynavin's 6.2" (or whatever it is).

any issues have been debating myself saw your install looks nice and easy, any complaints so far? any new pics of it lite?

NextGen 03-13-2011 09:37 PM

No new complaints. The unit has not had any hardware related issues. iGo Primo continues to be the shining star for this unit. I really like how there is no navigation nag screen at startup (that warning message you get from all other navs). Lately I have been just streaming music from my iPhone through it.

Unlike many of the Hualingan dealers that have disappeared the guy that sales Dynavin in the US is still in business. It is nice to know that my 1 year warranty actually has meaning.

Do you mean night pictures? By the way, I think the unit looks its best at night. The colors match OEM perfectly.

x5 dvd nav unit - help

This is the unit.

I have had the unit fitted professionally however they could not fit the camera into the number plate light as the camera is to big (too deep). I did see a photo of a smaller one when i went on the internet previously but
forgotten sight. I have emailed the supplier and advised them that it is to
big and possibly the wrong one. they replied and said correct camera for
E39 but mine is E53. the camera may just fit with cutting etc. can anyone tell me how they fitted the camera into the left number plate light.
also sat nav is not working correctly - doesn't give audio directions just
shows map of street where you are going but no navigation instructions, and says looking for GPS signal.

This is what you get in the box:
http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...Y0009Small.jpg

1. remove the MID and the radio and make the cut on the e53 or remove the frame on e39. Below is the cut I made, you might be able to find a better line but it worked well for me.

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...035Small-2.jpg

2. Connect the Navigation unit with the proper harness (17 or 40pin adapter). Below is my setup using the 17 pin adapter.
http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...029Small-2.jpg
If you don't have DSP you don't need to do the following steps.
3. I moved the eom radio in the trunk beside the dsp/amp. Use a second connector (17 or 40) to connect the radio to the power, ground, iBus, power antenna and 12vcc switched.
http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...036Small-1.jpg

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...039Small-1.jpg
Use a DB25 male connector. The newer models have a 54 pin connector. Identify the 12v switched and connect it to the radio connector.
http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...040Small-1.jpg
4. Extend the MID wires to reach to the glovebox and move it in there. This way you will have the DSP, BC controls available if needed.
5. all done

Note that this way the HL unit will use the steering wheel controls as well as the DSP amp. So the volumes will be in series as you would have in a TV/sat Receiver home setup. If you get the oam amp too low using the steering wheel controls then the if you use the nav system to raise the volume then you will get distortions. So make sure you set the volume for the amp at a high level and control the audio volume using the steering wheel control.
I got a very good sound, I find it much better than the original radio.

I have done it this way because the dsp amp does not turn on by just connecting the HL unit. You have to trick the DSP amp to stay on.
I hope this helps for now. Hualingan is sending me a new harness to try it out.

sedate_driver - I am still working on getting those pictures. I can't get a clear picture at night.

fmugur - glad to see you are still around. I hope one day to get a hualingan if they get their act together. Looks like CarSolutionsDude stopped selling them.

Car Solutions Dude Forum • View topic - Best place to buy ?

We have stopped selling these, too many issues and Hualigan is ignoring warranty requests.
Some units are working fine still after a few months, but roughly there is 20-25% return on these. Some fail after a few weeks only, and some were even Dead on Arrival. Electronics going mad, paint pilling etc.
Personally I would recommend you to go with Dynavin, especially if you have a e46.

I wouldn't go as far as recommending Dynavin. Instead, I recommend that a potential buyer do their homework before purchasing either model so they know the issues and limitations.

:) I keep seeing the question asked throughout the 26 pages of this topic but as yet no one has actually clearly answered it.

To what do you connect the loose wires? The pink, illumination etc? The ones to light up the buttons and the unit itself when you switch on the headlights. yes I did see the picture showing 12v etc but not what you connect to where.

Thanks ! :)

The problem is not ctobay it's the product. You have about 20% chances to get a defective system if you get a Hualingan and to return it to China is a not an easy process if that's an option.

Philly X5 04-15-2011 01:36 PM

I just got my unit from CTOBAY...
It took almost a month to get it but its finally here.
Hope to install it maybe this weekend. I have 03 X5 with OEM Navigation, no DSP
Unit looks really solid, I am surprised that the outside quality is so nice.
Screen looks HUGE :)
I also bought rear view camera.
Anyone knows if the camera just plug and play or do I need to do some extra wiring/relays/???

fmugur 04-15-2011 01:42 PM

Hopefully everything works. The camera should be plug and play although I don't know which one you got. You need a fakra cable but I guess you know that.

Philly X5 04-15-2011 02:27 PM

sorry, no idea about fakra cable. Can you give more info?
Googled it but saw different cables/results

You can test it in the trunk but to install it you need to bring the audio back to the front, under the carpet/seats. Since you have NAV your install is not quite plug and play.
You can do it yourself by extending the harness they gave you but you have to twist the wires the proper way. The supplier should have told you or asked you. Hualingan offers that as an option but the reseller has to help out.
PM me if you need one, I might still have one. You also need the radio antenna extension cable.

Philly X5 04-15-2011 09:42 PM

Thanks for responding.
Actually I retrofitted my OEM navigation (my car had only CD player before...) so this will be a 2nd time for me taking out the drivers seat, lift the carpet, etc...:D
I saw they included long wire loom so looks like I have all the wiring I need.
Cant wait to start this project, wish me luck and I will post questions (hopefully not many ;)

Philly X5 04-16-2011 09:17 PM

Hey fmugur,
you probably know this system the best. Can you please look at the pictures and tell me if I am good to go with installation or if I am missing some wiring.
I was told that the unit I received is the latest upgrade, hopefully its true.
If you have any ideas, advices for the installation let me know, I really appreciate it.
Wish me luck guys. This will be my 2nd NAVI retrofit in this car.:D

Received my Hualingan today and connected it in the back of my trunk on the cable that normaly connects into the BM54. The Navigation MK3 cdplayer is disconnected and also no cd changer is arround. Switched it on and got sound, but the dvd wouldn't play, got some message about blah, blah, master ... but again still sound! Removed the Alpine 16:9 boardcomputer and buildin the Hualingan. Still everything works. Switched off the car and after finishing my lunch came back and ... NO SOUND???? Also the amplifier setting were set back to zero and every change I made no effect. As soon as I turn my key in the ignition off/on these settings dissappeared and got back to zero. Everything seems to work except for that master message when trying to play a dvd and radio channel gives good signal all without sound ...

- did a hard reset with the button on front -> no effect
- flashed the device with the latest firmware -> no effect
- no light effects in the button -> ???
- amplifier settings are lost after reboot and switched back to zero
- when pressing reset button I get some noise from the speakers, so they are still alive ... after that nothing ...

Also what do these cables do? (see picture marked as red arrows) also noticed that you can connect these together, but is this needed in an BMW X5 2002 model?

Whatever is wrong I don't know, should I send it back to de dealer? Maybe amp in Hualingan blew up? Anyways I don't have any dsp or whatever so please if someone know how to help me. Many thanks!!!

subwoofer connection with the Hualingan

Hello,

Im new here.Im using the Dynavin and im going to change it for A Hualingan.
With the Dynavin i have some bad experients with the navigation part. It isn't possible to use it and to repair anymore, so I bought the Hualingan yesterday.

On the Dynavin I had connected a subwoofer. Its a Pioneer TS-WX11a. The subwoofer needs a signal when the Hualingan turns on and off, so I safe the battery.
With cable can I use from the Hualingan?
Have I make a connection with the the pink/white cable 12V switched in the picture on page 26 for the subwoofer?
For the Hualingan e46 models I guess it will be the red cable (same position as the pink/white cable) in the plug

Thx guys for this information topic, just where Im looking for.

Thanks,

I just installed Hualingan on my 97 E39 non dsp. Had same problem with CD changer, no sound coming from speaker. Is yours working now?
I am suspecting there is a 10 pin white connector that still hang around, I dont know where to plug in.

My NAV come with IGo 8. I connected the antenna connector to the opposite connector coming out from HU with thin cable. This is not the one. Then I connected the antenna connector to the opposite connector right behind the HU (on the body) and suddenly got the signal. It works perfectly.

Havn't test TV (DVB-T) since the broadcast in my area is still suspended I believe.

fmugur 05-18-2011 01:23 AM

OK, sorry for the big delay but I am swamped with other stuff. Here are some pics and I will add the comments as soon as I can.
In a few words you have to run power to switch the HU to use the backup camera and the video signal. Power for the camera you will get from the backup lights in the trunk, not in the trunk gate.
You have to go with the wire in the trunk lid where you place the camera.
Mine is a different model, I will change it with the new one but for now I can live with this one.

I hope it helps.

Take the front seat out. Four bolts and the connector.

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...Y0052Small.jpg

Pull the covers off and and run the video and power wires from the central console under the front seat and under the side panels to the trunk.
http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...Y0056Small.jpg

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...Y0055Small.jpg

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...Y0054Small.jpg

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...Y0053Small.jpg

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...Y0051Small.jpg

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...Y0049Small.jpg

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...Y0048Small.jpg

Tap into the wires that power the reverse lights. Pull the plastic cover to find the gate harness.

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...Y0046Small.jpg

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...Y0045Small.jpg

After you tapped into the revers light wires (12v and Ground) run two wires from the 12v wire, one to power the camera and one to the front to the HU to the wire labeled "Back". This wire switches the HU input to the backup camera input when detects 12v on it.
http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...Y0047Small.jpg

http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...Y0050Small.jpg

Since the camera is placed way off the center you have to make sure you take this in consideration when you back up.

You can find different models that are specially designed for X5 and actually can be installed in the left licence plate light.

Philly X5 05-18-2011 09:12 AM

Great pictures. Your X looks like mine at this moment...

Can you be more speciffic about the wires your used to get power to camera and also what wires go from camera to the unit? Looks like you used brown wire for ground and looks like white wire for positive? Do you need to bring Power from camera to the unit or is it only Video signal?

Also,
Everything works on my unit except unit illumination - what do I need to do to make it work? I was reading previous posts but cannot find the solution, maybe I missed it.

I have pink, orange, blue and brown wires on the harness. Fmugur do you know which onesi suppose to connect and where so I caget illumination

Thanks again for your help!

Philly X5 05-18-2011 12:33 PM

I also noticed that you positioned the camera slightly to the left of the license plate light, how is the picture looks on the screen? Is it centered?
I was thinking to put my camera in the same spot, don't want to touch the lights, due to error messages...

Philly X5 05-19-2011 10:16 PM

Just finished my install. All the options work. Connected orange illumination wire to my old power/stereo harnes and all the keys have light now.
I compared them at night to my BMW interior lights and they match perfectly.

Some questions:
Passengers front speaker has minor vining sound during car acceleration. Any idea how to fxi that?
My camera had 2 power wires - positive and negative which I connected to rear drivers back light and one video cable which I connected to the units video in input - but when I put the car in reverse, nothing happens.
Not sure how to fix that, ideas?

I will try to post some high res. Pictures this weekend.

fmugur 05-20-2011 02:32 PM

Depending on your camera. They come with 4 or 3 wires (the ground is common). The HU needs +12 to the wire labeled "back" to switch the input to the camera. Do not use the video input for the backup camera, use the right RCA connector.
If the camera is not powered or there is no signal on that input you will get a message on the screen about that.
If you don't send +12v to the "back" wire your HU will not switch the input.

Philly X5 05-20-2011 03:04 PM

Thanks for responding.
I found out yesterday about 12V to the unit from carsolutionsdude forum...
What "right"RCA are you talking about - I dont think I have one...I have several inputs for RCA audio, one input that says "Video In Back" and thats the one I used for the camera. :dunno:

Philly X5 05-20-2011 03:11 PM

Fmugur - right now I have my positive and negative connetect to my reverse light. I also need to bring 12v to the unit. Is it possible to take it from the reverse gear instead of going all the way back to the trunk?
If yes, do you remember which wire to use at the gear?

Thanks.

Philly X5 05-21-2011 04:01 PM

Ok, when I connected camera and a wire " back" from the unit to reverse lights I got nothing... When I connected camera and " back" wire to my old audio harness which had Positive and negative wire I got picture from the camera so I know it's working it's a constant power and I want it to work when I shift the car in reverse....looks like reverse wiring cannot switch the camera, not sure why.
Anyone knows what I can use to power the camera and back wire from the unit so it will work when i shift in reverse.

fmugur 05-23-2011 11:09 PM

Philly, I don't understand what meant when you refer to the old radio connector.
All you need to get the camera working is power, and to have the camera powered only when you backup you need to connect it to the reverse lights. To do that there is no need to got to the bulb socket, you can do that on the trunk and tap into the wires from the gate harness. Hualingan system switches the input to the "back video" RCA (yellow rca with purple wire) when you put 12v to the wire labeled "back". So, if you use teh same power wire that you power the camera with to go to the front of the car where the Hualingan system is and connect it to the "back" labeled wire you should get it working.

Here is a reference to a oem camera retrofit diy that might help you.
http://www.xoutpost.com/38007-post4.html

There are a few types of backup cameras but there is one that you can find probably from your supplier specially designed for your X that has the power wire on the rca extension so you can plug the rca and to the backup camera and you only need to tap into the 12v revers power. The ground is from the HU/RCA.

pezho405 05-24-2011 04:29 PM

Does that say 14 Degrees C, mine only goes down to 16...?

aubreym 05-31-2011 03:02 AM

Hi guys

I am brand new to the forum, very informative forum. I like it. I have also purchased the Hualingan for my E46 330i, and was wondering if anyone has any of these problems and if there is any suggestions or fix that people have come across.

1. The music player will start from the first folder.
Let’s say you have 10 folders with 20 mp3 files in each and you were listening to song 3 on folder 6 for example. If you change to radio or you switch off the ignition, when you go back to music player it would start on folder 1 song 1, then you will have to skip all folders to get to where you were. Another; if you are listening to folder 9 for an example and all the songs in that folder have all played. The hualingan will not go to folder 10 instead it will go to folder 1 song 1

2. Silence
If you are playing music player again and you receive a phone call, the radio would mute the music so you can use the phone via Bluetooth, but when you finish the voice conversation the player will start and you can see it counting on the screen but there will not be sound until you quit music player and go back in it, even if you press the mute button nothing happens, or you turn up the volume. Which this time you go to folder 1 song 1 again

3. The AF (RDS)
The AF button only works for the first time after i change the radio country until i switch off the car, when i later use the radio the AF button is now disabled, like greyed out. To get it to work again i have to reselect the country under setting and then re-tune all my favorite radio stations, well until i switch off again... and so on and so on

4. Phone book function
I have an Blackberry Bold 2, the address book function will just hang with an hourglass forever and i cannot use the phone-book function on the hualingan, i have tried also a Nokia n97 same story.

Firmware
I just think that most of the my problems are firmware related and can possibly be fixed via a firmware upgrade? is there one somewhere?

Please help anybody..

I only disconnected the negative. I actually did swap the business cd and the radio works fine. I'm actually thinking about taking the haulingan out and figure out a way of putting back the business cd. It's pretty boring driving with no radio LOL

aimtimes100 08-12-2011 04:34 PM

Really?guess its back to ebay for me... And i really hate ebay.hopefully i can find a business cd thats plug and play.im not lookin forward to slicing wires again

louniex 08-12-2011 04:45 PM

Your telling me I might have to buy a pioneer avic. I hate the way that looks. I might sell my business cd if I get a good deal

Here's a good thread from a British website.

fullmetaljacket 08-28-2011 05:30 AM

Hi guys, it's been quite some time since I last posted on the thread. That was a year ago when I was still happy with my Hualingan unit. Now, my unit hangs, lost the mic/audio for the Bluetooth function and lost the picture for the DVD - I get an error message saying - you should not operate DVD While driving. I'm planning on getting the same unit but an UPDATED one. Does anyone have an idea on these updated ones? Are they better? Is the windows 6.0 OS Much better than the 5? I'm afraid to get one because I do not want the OLD OS Ofcourse!

What do you think about this? I'm planning on getting this if it's really UPDATED...

This is the unit.
http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...005Small-1.jpg

I believe that the screen measurement indicated is taken diagonally.
I fitted a Hualingan unit over a year ago and it is still good. The 7" screen and GPS function itself is good value for money and the setup looks good too.

bosanci28 09-07-2011 08:57 PM

ya,you right friend
my bad :stickpoke, is not much difference in between the 2 units from 6.5" to 7" i guess...

anyone ordered a replacement ipod wire??? mine went caput

m5james 09-25-2011 06:54 PM

Hey PhillyX5, do you have a link and installation pics of your backup camera? I've seen the same little pod looking style like you have, but I was never sure if it would fit and still hide under the lip (unlike fmugur's installation), if the resolution is good, has the red, yellow and green lines (which I want) in the image, etc.

Philly X5 09-25-2011 09:45 PM

Sorry, no installation pics I just used instructions from the forum but I will try to post some pics of the camera later, it's fits perfectly under the lip, looks almost like it came like this with the car, has colored lines and resolution is very good with day light but at night you won't see anything...but on eBay they advertise it as a day/night camera...

m5james 09-25-2011 10:18 PM

I'm guessing it's this one Car Rear View Reverse backup Camera for BMW X3 X5 X6 | eBay since it has lines, mentions night vision and is in the same price range. I did a search for "backup camera x5" and there are about 3-4 different ones that I've looked at, either round or square and look very similar in size. I just want it to have the distance lines and even though I rarely tow, some actual night vision would be preferred for that one time I'm hooking up at night.

IMHO, :dunno: You get what you pay. It has been pretty good for me so far after two years of service. It does have some annoying features but not enough to overshadow the good ones. The 7" touch screen, built-in GPS, radio, bluetooth, music, TV, etc are all pluses. :iagree:the service and response is as good as zilch. Will I get another one for replacement? Yes, considering that the frame has been butchered to fit the unit!!

can anyone point me where to get a camera, for the x5 01 ,

are they color ? night vision ? what will be best?

thanks,

Don't do it. It is not worth. Most of cameras are advertised as plug n play but they are actually not and quality sucks. You will spend lot of money and will never be happy.

aimtimes100 01-11-2012 07:30 AM

never heard of the product but based on the features it looks like another product similiar to hullingan/dynavnin units. not a fan of the finish for these products though

bc05x5 09-06-2012 10:45 PM

i just read through 33 pages most ifnot all info is first thread. has anyone else done this does it work with only this deck? im was lloking at the dynavin.
ive got a non navi dsp x5
i keep seing posts saying need to bypass theamp and install new amp speakers ect.
i just want a navi deck dont wanna redo the stereo

aimtimes100 09-06-2012 10:48 PM

May be wrong but when you order the dynavin they make you select whether your X has dsp or not. If so they send you another cable so that the whole setup remains plug and play

bc05x5 09-06-2012 11:04 PM

they they say dsp dont work as does hooligan.
that extrea cable is for if it had a navi deck before not dsp

spcalan1 09-07-2012 09:44 PM

Anyone ever replaced the business cd and mid with Alpine double din unit ?

bc05x5 09-08-2012 07:29 PM

Is there a alpine double din with navi if so I'd get that

bc05x5 09-08-2012 10:29 PM

Was told the dunavin will work wit dsp. Has anyone done it and if it's any diff parts stuff needed than the hooligan. Dint wanna buy it to fibdout I need to replace the amp speakers ect.

How to connect wires

I just bought a unit from china, how do u connect it? I thought it was plug play, but the wires don't matchup. Does anybody have video or pictures on how to install this unit? I have a 2003 e53, with DSP

I've researched this over and over, none of the aftermarket units will work if you have DSP, what I mean by that is that it is not plug and play. I think the problem is the DSP amp itself, do a search there's an in depth thread about how to bypass the DSP, but it ain't easy.

Sorry, but the Dynavin will not work with DSP, I think it says that on their website. I contacted them about a month ago via email and they told me it will not work. I think you can get it to work but you can't use it with the DSP amp, there's a thread about how to bypass the DSP amp but it ain't easy.

Bduece 09-19-2012 04:41 PM

Hi All,
New to this forum. I'm trying to help a friend install the Hualingan in his x5. He has the oem nav with DSP. I have read all 34 pages. I was wondering if a dsp converter could be used instead of moving the factory radio to the trunk. There are a number of them out there for aux, usb and ipods. Here is an install video of one of them; DICE BMW iPod Kit DSP Adapter Install: E39 5 Series, E53 X5 - YouTube
Thank you

Oh, got it, try these two links.

The second link is for bypassing the stock dsp amp and wiring your own amp which this thread isn't about. The first thread is still using the stock dsp amp however has low audio levels

nezarnuaimat 10-20-2012 06:48 PM

Just finished reading this - in two hours!
I just bought this to my E53 2002 with Navi screen no DSP.
I'll let you know if it's a plug & play or not.
By the way, is this Hualingan 4th gen?

jeanX5 10-20-2012 11:24 PM

Although I was a big fan of Hualingan when it first came out with good support from the local re-seller I would consider reading this before buying.
Hualingan in car touch screen DVD

Dynavin came out with an ugly design with 6.2" screen but they have a few versions now with 7" screen. Both are Chinese companies but Dynavin seems to honor the one year warranty in case you have problems.

Hualingan installation problems

I just bought a Hualingan 4th gen for my X5 E53 2005 with 40 pin connectors (no DSP). Obviously I had to stretch a 6 meter cable harness from the trunk to the HU.
Before I installed it i read a couple of the guides in this forum. Directly upon installation, still being in the garage, it seemed like I had been successful. There was sound from from the various sources (Radio,DVD, iPod, iPhone via bluetooth, SD, USB), I could play video from DVD and the iGo8 GPS system functioned.

Then the problems started. Sound from from all sources comes and goes. Mostly goes. The user interface freezes and hangs. No more video or pictures, and the bluetooth Iphone connection does not work.

All the connections have been checked and rechecked to the best of my skills.

Conclusion: I have found that when the engine is off and I operate the unit everything works fine, but as soon as I start the engine the system malfunctions, i.e all sound vanishes, I can´t play videos and bluetooth malfunctions etc.

I have to admit that my electrical skills are far less than average. Still it strikes me as strange that it all works while the engine is off, but as soon as I start up everything stops.

The HU was bought from cars-electronics.com in China. I´ve emailed them about the problem and the have asked me to take pictures and video to help assess the situation and the connections.

I have not attempted to connect the "illumination" wire anywhere and as such I do not have illuminated buttons. To be honest I have no idea where to connect it.

In addition I have also not attempted to connect the HU to the reverse camera (original) for the same reason.

I would deeply appreciate it if anyone in here could be of assistance. The whole thing has become really frustrating, and I am seriously considering putting back the original HU and keep burning CDs.

Hello pal, look, as long as your HU functions well (sometimes), then there should be no wrong with it.
I doubt there's a problem of connections. I remember that the illumination wire has some relation with the POP sound I used to hear when I click on ipod icon before some electrician fixed it for me.
If I were you I'd go to a really-experienced electrician and have him checked all the connections.
Let me know when happen.

eurora borealis 03-05-2013 05:24 AM

Thanks for your prompt reply, nezarnuaimat. I think you are right: I need to get an experienced electrician to have a look at it.
By the way - have you connected the illumination cable on the back of the HU to a power source? In case you have, do you remember what source/cable?
And the same with the reverse camera (I have an original one), do you remember where to locate the power cable for the reverse lights?
Is there anything that can be connected to the cables of the original HU. Now I have just stuffed those cables aside inside the dashboard.

Thanks a bunch for sharing. Very much appreciated.

Yes, I remember my electrician found out that I did some wrong connections and he corrected them. I really don't remember well but he connected the PWR-ANT wire to a +12 VDC source (look for a red wire inside the harness), he added a noise filter plus a bunch of other items. You need to see an expert pal. Now my HU is working just perfect.

Make sure you take this photo with you. Its different brand but has similar connections

Good luck ;)

I know this is an really old stream.
My hualingan has been great, but recently the firmware has gone haywire.
Does anybody know where I can find a download for the HL-8786GB WINCE 5.0 firmware.
Thanks in advance
