It looks like you can test the XYZ switch through the main plug socket at the rear of the transmission above the oil pan.
You will need a pinout diagram though to know which pins are connected to the XYZ switch. Alternatively, you can trace it by removing the trans oil pan and following the wires from the XYZ switch subharness to their respective pins in the main socket. Do you have the pinout diagrams for the main plug or at least the XYZ switch? |

I just dont want to buy & replace this IMS or XYZ Switch only to find out that it's not the cause of the Trans Fail fault. thanks again Friend. |

At the end of the day, if you dont get the pinouts and instructions on what to check for, replacing the switch will probably be the next best approach. |
Hi g & anyone there who could help. I got the pinout. Next is who's gonna help me on how to test the main plug socket. 1) Should I turn on ignition to position 2 only w/o starting the engine? 1) W/c pin is the negative? 2) Or is this also the ground?

ATF Fluid change – E53 3.0 litre Petrol I’m hoping someone has prior experience in solving this problem I was attempting to change my ATF and accidentally rounded-off the head of the Fill Plug. I have tried all methods / solutions I could find on-line. Do not have a welder or access to one, or I would simply weld another larger nut onto the existing Fill Plug. I used a Universal pipe Wrench / Quick Snap-N-Grip Spanner which has easy access and excellent grip IF TIGHTENING the plug – but those clever engineers did not allow access when loosening the plug. FYI – I started this removal with an extremely snug open ended spanner, but I was not aware that hit the outer flange of the sump which forced the tool to move away from the plug, which started the rounding-off. Then I tried the extremely snug closed end of a combination spanner, with the same result. It ‘appears’ to me that I would have easy access with the Universal pipe wrench if I removed the sump, but I do not have facility to leave the car for extended time if that does not work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The only method I have not used is a blow-torch, and the welder as noted. I think those pans are aluminum. I don’t advise chisel. You should really be using a proper socked when working on cars. Shit like this will keep happening to you. If you are good with a dremel, maybe square that nut up.
