Whining, squeaky noise fixed!! Intake manifold runners many people have this problem

after searching through this forum ive noticed many of us are complaining of a squeaky "hamster wheel" kind of noise, after some troubleshooting i found that out intake manifold runners go bad after a while. mine was broken, can find them on ebay or pelicanparts.com part number is 11617544805 and runs you about 220-240.
apologies in advance for amateur showing

here is the location of the problem this is the manifold valve

here is the new one

i used this ratchet and torx bit there is only two screws holding it on
http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/a...x/IMAG0073.jpg

here is the old one as you can see a no no in our x5's
http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/a...x/IMAG0074.jpg

two scrrws hold it in place along with the solenoid connector
pretty straightforward install with room to replace it without having to move anything else. after this install the noise is gone and rpms have balanced out as well and no more shudders.
hope this has been somewhat helpful

I don't recall seeing this part before, then again I wasn't looking for it. Is this part applies to 4.4i? This noise is during engine idling or driving?

I think I may have a similar issue. I notice when I accelerate I hear a whistling/squeaky sound. Did your noise only happen when you accelerate? Also in your first picture can you draw an arrow to where you are referencing? Don't know where the intake manifold runners are....:-(
I may have to take it to my Indy to check it out but if its something I can fix it would be great.

Thx

sorry for the amateur pics lol but the area where you have the whistling/ squeaky noises are most common from your vacuum hose which is where th intake hose ends and enters the engine, ill take more pics because as the weather changes it fails like it did to me and my rubber peice gave out and the car shut off, the valve gave out and cracked causing the squeaky noises.

for 4.4 im not sure but will do more homework on this because as i went to the stealer to buy the part he pointed out 3 more x5's in the back with the same problem and a $900 repair bill :yikes:

circled are the culprits for our noises, the rubber elbow costs 27 at the dealer and the intake valve unit runs about 220-240 with climate change its easy to fail and its like a domino effect

after this fix my shuddering and shaking went away so did the squeaks and whistle sound (kinda sounded like a supercharger :( ) and response has gone up since air is flowing better

Thanks...I just pop my hood and the hose you have circled in yellow indeed has a visible crack. How hard was it to replace? Do you have parts list number for the vacuum hose? i will open the intake manifold to see if it needs replacing..hopefully its just the hose that needs to be changed.

Thanks for sharing!

its a whole unit that the dealer sells and its like an elbow peice all together in order to install you definitely need to uninstall the intake hose to have arm room, realoem.com should help for that but its easier than it looks and alot easier on the wallet to do it yourself. if its cracked hurry up and change it out or youll find out the hard way lol good luck man

Thanks I hope to get to it by next weekend once I locate the replacement hose. I am afraid to ask what could happen if I want too long to replace the cracked hose? By the way do you know if the hose has a part #.

thanks! mrBrigante

I've been search this problem forever...

Dealer pointed out it was a cracked on the intake tube which caused, I realliy didn't want to trust their findings. Thank God I didn't after reading the post and waste my money on a problem wont be fixed. Worst of all, revisit the dealer is a hassle~

again, thanks for the write up and help me to get the parts I need, and fixing this "super charged noise"
