Help! Clunk going into reverse or drive
When I go into reverse or drive I get a clunk. When I drive the car it makes no clunk sound. If I go from park to drive I get clunk.from neutral to park no clunk. This step is the same if I go from park to reverse and neutral to reverse.I guess what Im saying is I get a clunk on load.
Any ideas what this clunk could come from.I had the driveshaft looked at and It looks good as well as the guibo.Although thats not to say that they are not the problem. Hope someone has had the same experience and good help with the solution Thanks |
Transmission mounts, motor mounts, diff mounts all good? Subframe?

In addition to the mounts mentioned above, it would be worth checking the front driveshaft again. There is a known issue with the splined yoke on the output side of the transfer case. It won't be readily visible with a quick external inspection. The splines rust, usually cause a noise on engagement (a higher pitch than you are describing), and eventually fail. Only mention it because it has happened on other vehicles.

It's a universal joint on the drive shaft. Very typical to how they sound when they just start to fail. Expect it to be about $100 parts and labor.
