Replacement Battery 2005 x5 3.0d

Winter is here in Poland...and my x5 has died again....it must be the battery so i cam going to replace it...

Can anyone recommend a good alternative....I am not sure what the specs should be....

I have searched all the threads but cant pinpoint a recommendation.

I had to do this to mine aswell battery started to die out. So i looked up what i needed to know in this thread http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...ernatives.html and than went to sears and got a die hard battery for international branded vehicles. Sales person double checked what kind of battery i needed to make sure it would fit and found the die hard. Battery was just about the same but the OEM one was White and handle was different while the die hard was black. Both had the vent plug and it still works after a year. Hope that helps but in the mean time ill try to find that battery i have from die hard for you so you can get if you like.

ok... strange things happening but i went to the die hard web site directly and put in my vehicle information and it kept saying that they dont support the vehicle..... not sure whats going on with that... and than i googled "die hard international battery" and a bunch of negative reviews saying to steer clear from this battery.... so... uh... i guess stay away from this battery, i hope i am in the clear though.. i really haven't had a issue with the battery at all and it is shady that i havent been able to find it online =/

What about Bosch or Varta ?

Here is what i have learnt so far from the forum:

1) From what i gather the specs need to match exactly ?? So for the x5 3.0d 2005 the battery i need the equivalent of the below:

a) Original BMW battery, filled 90ah part number 61218381768 or
b) Original BMW AGM-battery 90ah part number 61216924023

can anyone confirm this ? Whats the difference between a&b in real pratical terms?

3) Then if i was to buy an alternative it would need to be the same specs:
12 V / 90AH / 720A

can someone confirm this ?

4) In that case would the following Bosch or Varta with same specs be ok...?

BOSCH BATTERY 90Ah 720A S3

or

VARTA BATTERY 90Ah 720A

5) I also read something about an air vent...? does anyone know if the above have an air vent ? If not then should i not use them?

My oem battery was made for BMW by Varta ,so you may find that Varta aftermarket replacement would be ideal as Varta make some of the best batteries .

Difference between A and B is that the AGM battery is the new technology and far superior and will cost twice as much as the oem standard lead-acid.AGM is a new technology even better that Gel as it doest need any special battery chargers and charges like a nornal lead-acid battery.

AGM technology delivers increased safety, performance, and service life over all other existing sealed battery types, including gel technology. In AGM sealed batteries, the acid is absorbed between the plates and immobilized by a very fine fiberglass mat. No silica gel is necessary. This glass mat absorbs and immobilizes the acid while still keeping the acid available to the plates. This allows a fast reaction between acid and plate material. :)

Somewhere I read the the current is controlled by the computer in the x5 and if there is a difference lets say its 100ah then it will produce gases shortening the life of the battery and also cause electrical gremlins inside my car...:dunno:

I went for the odyssey pc1700.

Maybe where you heard it,they are also clever than Bosch,who specify 95AH 800A and 100AH 830A for the X5 3.0D and from 70AH 640A to 100AH 830A for the petrol versions!
FYI,the Bosch ref.you posted earlier (S3013) is NOT specified in the Bosch application,for the 3.0D!Only for petrol versions!
Like I said ,I got mine from my dealer for cost reason.Woud have preferred the Bosch as it should hold my battery longer.

Again the VARTA link you posted is also NOT for the X5 Diesel.
Varta also specify 100AH battery for the Diesel,as you can see here!
