me too. I lowered it with the the H&R links and it didn't change. Took them out and had dealer putting the stock ones back in and lower it with the computer. It didn't change anything. I gave up trying to figure this one out.

Our '06 4.8 has the full air suspension, and the rear will sometimes be higher on the passenger side. Sometimes it will level itself out, and other times it will stay that way for a few days. Took it to the dealer and they said it was "within spec." I think the uneven height causes the TPM light to come on too for some reason. No flats, no low pressuree tires, just mysterious warning lights every so often. I think the air ride system on the e53 is really full of bugs and suspect hardware. Our front air springs and EHC module went out at 43K mi, and I think the rears might be leaking too and that is why the height is uneven. Dealer doesn't think so, but hey...it's been in 6 times for the mystery TPM warnings and they still can't figure it out.

This is happening on my same E53, 4.4i 2002 as well. I have slowly watched the rear air suspension get worse, and worse over time. Eventually I finally got an error message saying "Self Leveling Susp. Inactive". This is generally caused by the wear that occurs on the rear Pneumatic Springs. After time based on the way that they sit within the car they can begin to leak slowly, maybe more on one side than the other. I am writing all of this assuming that you have the Sport Package (fyi). Notice if you hear a noise coming from the rear of your car when it starts up/when you unlock it...you would be able to hear the car lifting it self up or attempting to lift it self up. At the end of this before I finally had my Pnuematic Air Spring replaced it was hissing out air that was not inflating into the bag and I knew that it was time to have it replaced. Have them checked out- both sides. Got the part from ECS tuning 188.00...Dealership (Barron BMW) wanted 250.00 for the part.

Good luck.

yes i have the sport package but i dont have the ''self level susp. inact.''message on,

rickyr3857 12-05-2010 11:07 PM

for the longest time I did not have the message come on, I probably went at least 6 months with this problem before it finally completely gave out on my rear passenger side and than the message came on.

and how can i check the pneumatic air spring for leaking
