I agree, to a point. That point being I've had the car 2.5 years now and like I said the battery has not been its best from the day I bought it, so I've been chancing my arm every day since! Thing is, they're only going to tell me something I pretty much know already, and I would have wasted an hour+ in the process, which I'd rather use to fit my new front door carrier :bustingup

Anyway, I just bought a new Bosch battery last night (£82 off ebay) and I should have it by the weekend/mon at the latest, so I'll let you guys know if its sorted the flashing/flickering light business.

Zulu, you mean HalFRAUDS, right?

So if you had already decided that the battery was bad and you were going to replace it, what exactly was it that you wanted opinions on?

The INITIAL question concerning the battery light flickering/staying on after start-up!

Its only been doing it for the last couple of weeks and I wanted to know if I was on the right track in thinking that it was my not-so-great-from-purchase-of-the-vehicle-2-years-ago-battery finally giving up the ghost, or the possiblility that this was an indication of perhaps the alternator/regulator starting to pack up-or indeed anything else someone may have had the same experience with.. :stickpoke

As it happens I fitted a new battery today and the battery health indicator was black!

And placebo or not I'm sure its driving smoother now

Back to post #3. Now get the charging system checked.

Will do JCL, any tips?

Pretty standard test, there are specs for what voltages you should see.

The battery and charging system are often linked in problems like this, since a weak battery can stress the charging system, and a weak charging system can cause the battery to fail. So, when replacing one, it is always worth checking the other. Replacing the battery first was the right thing to do (particularly because of the age of it in your case), but the mutual dependency of the two components means that charging system issues aren't unusual to find now even if it was a bad battery. And, you don't want to kill your new battery if you do have a charging system problem.

If the dash light stays off that is good, it is just good practice to make sure that it is all operating correctly.

Ok, thanks JCL. Will look into the specs etc and do the test tomorrow.

Well I'm pleased to report the battery light does not flicker or stay on at all after start-up. And the beast spins up much faster and starts with alot less cranking time! Probably about 1-2 seconds crank time, whereas it was about the 3-4 mark before.

Problem solved I would say!
