No, you will not get into any troubles by disconnecting the battery. By the terrific nature of the E53, the battery disconnect is actually a solution to various issues.

disconnecting the battery wont hurt anything. all you'll have to do is reset the time and date on the radio. no codes needed. everywhere i measured was atleast 18" with alot being over 24" . only thing i drove today was my snowblower. they finally plowed my street at 4pm. i have a garage and a portable garage but the X sits outside.
good luck:thumbup: |
Update:
The radio works now not sure what I did fixed it or not, below is the sequence of events. I left the x parked for a week or so, checked all fuses for the nav/radio and they checked fine reinserted them properly ......radio was still dead. The next day I read somewhere here to go slow when starting the x that is turning key from 1-2-start and wait in between, so I did that waited and then started the X and then pushed the radio button and it worked ....makes no sense but it did, I do remember before the radio went dead I hurried thru the start not sure if there was some electrical spike....seems like BS but worked for me...I will cancel the stealers appointment in the morning, thanks all for your help....if it dies again I will disconnect the battery for now I did not. |
Had same issue today and did exactly how you described, worked like a charm. Mentioned fuses were all good and after checking them I was on the edge: "please let starting procedure 1-wait-2-wait-start" work and it did. After that tried radio by turning it off/on a couple of times and no issues, go figure.

:-) Great, am glad it worked for you, since i was thinking maybe my X was possessed.
It's been running fine for me so far and i have made the 1-wait-2-wait -Start my startup process ;-) for the X, also before stopping the engine i have started switching off the NAV monitor, i noticed a flicker a while back and did'nt see it ever since i've started switching it off...all of this does'nt make sense and i usually dont report it in here since it follows no logic but it worked so far for me. |
you want logic and X to be in same sentence?? http://www.sportfishermen.com/board/...aehrung004.gif

and here we go, ups... it did it again and this time previous start up sequence does not work any more. Will disconnect the battery this time and shall see what other gizmos are gonna pop up after connecting it back. It drives me crazy!:dunno:

bmwmmn - How did the battery disconnect go? did it fix the issue?
|
Thank you jbny for concern, disconnected battery yesterday for about 45min. and it worked. The only light I got was traction control light on cluster but as soon I started driving it went away. It had been a full day and knock on wood everything is working properly!
