installation of Sirius satellite

I have an 06 4.8is and would like to install the factory Sirius satellite unit. One dealership told me the unit was not available, the other said don't bother it would not work properly and that I would lose my cd changer. Has anyone installed satellite radio in their X5?

I believe you can get a reciever for the 06, however it does take the place of your CD changer. Do a search for it on here, I know i have seen some info about it on the site before.

If you have a Smartphone, use the Sirius app. It's a lot easier.

I got my Sirius parts from BavAuto. Very complete and works perfectly, but I don't have the CD changer so can't say if there's a need to remove it

How does it sound? Will it play thru the speakers?

and is it an "integrated" solution (uses steering wheel buttons and Nav screen to display info)? When I inquired a few years back I was told there is no official BMW Sirius module for our vehicles so I abandoned the search.

It's excellent. Just hook your phone up to the AUX jack in your car.

My car doesn't have an aux jack, I would need to have it installed. Has anyone installed the aux jack and plugged in an ipod? If so, how is the sound quality?

Oh. Mistake. I assumed all cars had that these days.

to get the module, you will lose your cd changer. When I bought my 06 in the begining of 09 they included it in the sale saying that it should be available soon... a year later I gave up and had the credit applied to tires for my Z4.

While I waited, I bought a sirius starmate unit and ran the sound through the aux input in the glove box. you can have one installed there. Sound is good with the right cable. And I like that I can pause it up to almost an hour for talk shows, then fast foward through commercials. Plus the reception on the starmate is so much better than the factory unit I have installed in my Z4.
