Thanks everybody....Yeah, I think one of the reasons I bought this truck was
because of the body kit. I love it. As for the brakes, this thing stops on a dime.
Very very impressed so far on the performance of my X5.
The rear calipers are stock (I think OEM), but it has cross drilled rotors too.
I might get around to washing it tonight and I'll post more cleaner pics soon.
Once again, thanks for all the comments and I'm happy everyone here is so nice!

OP: Very tasteful X5! Those brakes must shed speed like crazy, huh? Love the car! Could use some detailing and a proper photo session though ;)

Gotta love how those ML's hold up in a crash. My last SUV was a 2001 ML 55 AMG. I got rear ended, from a cop of all people, on I-95 with me doing about 75 and him doing about 100mph. His cruiser (Ford Crown-Vic) was totaled and the ML only needed a new rear bumper.

Now I understand basic physics, my car absorbed the impact by being pushed forward, his did not, but still, for one vehicle to be totaled, and the other to need $1,800 worth of repair, thats a big spread. Mercedes uses some strong steel in their cars.

Having said that, I love my new (to me) 2006 X5 4.4i. Its got great power (not as much as the AMG) and the build quality is just far better than the ML. In the ML anything/everything plastic always broke. The BMW does not seem to have these issues. Nothing rattles, no cup holders to break, overall a much better driving SUV.

Enjoy!

Also, the frontal crash zone of just about any modern vehicle is designed with something called "crumple zones". Whereas, rear bumper is normally reinforced. Combine those two and you will always have lots more damage in the car that hits, than the car that gets hit in a rear-end collision. Additionally, the Crown Vic's front is significantly lower than the rear bumper of the ML, which again makes the cruiser absorb yet more energy. Still pretty cool how it was totaled and yours only need 1,800 in repairs though :D

Old post? Still waiting on updated pics!!!

I was also in an accident due to a cop running a stop sign ...imagine that! (no lights or siren ...not even on a call). The last thing I remember was seeing the door crest appear in slow motion a split second before I T-boned him right in the driver's door...

No I wasn't in my X5, but your story conjured up an old memory. I was in my girlfriend's (now wife's) '81 VW Diesel rabbit...

At first, the brothers in arms were trying to say that the cause of the accident was due to my speeding.... It was later determined that I was doing 27mph in a 35mph zone. Anyone who has ever driven a Diesel rabbit would know that it is incapable of speeding.
:bustingup

Thank God that I wasn't going any faster and was wearing my seatbelt because the Rabbit didn't hold up well. The entire front end was pushed all the way to the windshield. I bent the top of the steering wheel nearly flat with my hands. I suffered severe seatbelt rash, a momentary collapsed lung and a cracked sternum.

In the end, their insurance company happily rewarded us with a BMW 3 series to compensate and to replace the Rabbit that was totally distroyed.

Hey guys, I'm new here to the forum and new to BMW.
My wife and I were in an accident 3 weeks ago. We were hit by a drunk driver and our ML320 flipped on it's
side. We suffered many bruises, but we survived and that's the main thing......So we recently got compensated
by the insurance for our written off Mercedes and we decided to buy a 2002 X5 with a full Dinan spoiler pkg. & Dinan
performance mods (cold air intake, strut bar, Dinan exhaust, power chip etc.......)
Here's a picture of my truck (not the best shot). I'll post better pics soon.
So far the truck's been good to us....................(cross my fingers....lol)

sorry to hear about that but on the side not considering your X is the same color as mine(no one ever gets a gray X.either silver or black) its deff now my fav X on this sight.it looks A LOT better then mine.i also feel like im the only member with 16 in rims lol.everyone else seems to spring for 19in or greater
