Much better than lead acid. There is no cold cranking hesitation in extreme cold weather, even sitting for days out in the extreme cold. One time, I even left the parking lights on overnight and thinking the car will not start and need a jump next afternoon but that wasn't the case. The car started right up without hesitation. I switched to AGM on all my cars. I will not buy lead acid again. AGM seems so much better.

Thanks! Which brand/model did you get?

And no issues with overcharging on the E53?

DieHard and Bosch.

Overcharging is not good for any battery.

Registering the lead acid battery

Hey guys I have access to the program NCS Expert and I need to change the setting of the battery now that I've registered it with Tool32 software. Does anyone here have step by step instructions on how to do it?

Thanks in advance.

See post 20 in this thread, e53 batteries do not need to be registered.

just change the battery, no registering needed.don`t make it any more complicated then needed.

I just installed a Bosch AGM this past weekend from Pep Girls, cold starts seem to have no hesitation, voltage is steady - worth every penny and I will be only using AGM batteries from here on out - they are worth the 15% price premium IMO

:iagree:

The only down side is that they do not tend to like being deep cycled as much as an wet acid traditional battery. But with a proper functional battery trickle charger and a functional alternator/regulator they are a BIG PLUS on cold days. hey, didn't some scientific review show that the sun is starting a down cycle so we are headed into a new mini ice age? If yes, then your ready!

I am personally just going to turn up my office heater in anticipation of the coming ice age. The dog likes a warm belly.

Yeah, If an AGM is not used for deep cycle duty, a smart charger with disulfide cycle MUST be used every few months on the battery.

Don't do it, expect around 1/2 service life!

Ricky Bobby 11-25-2015 02:43 PM

^On that I did email Schumacher and they did say that the Deep Cycle/Maintenance Free setting on the charger I have would work fine to keep in good health

Even if it never gets on a charger, Pep Girls gives me 4 year free replacement on it if it fails - which is a few months more than I got on my last batt and lets be honest 95% of people buy a battery and it never sees a charger for its whole life besides when the car is running, lol
