Try the easy fix first, go to your local parts store and get a couple of packages of caliper glue, lube or what ever they call it, I forget. It's basically a glue like substance that comes in a tear open package like ketchup, it cushions the pad from metal to metal contact from the caliper. Spread it on the backside of each pad and let it dry, reinstall the pads and that should take care of your noise, I'm surprised your mechanic didn't do this for you!

Anyone have any rec on Brakeperformance.com rotors and pads? Dimpled & Slottered once.

Usual qualifications about any dimples, drilled holes, or slots taking away strength from the rotor, and contributing to brake noise. Note that in all of their detailed descriptions of their four styles of rotors, they never once mention the cooling fins. That is a flag that goes up for me, indicating that they are likely using cheap blanks with straight fins. The design of those fins is not likely to be the same as OE, which compromises performance. |
Thanks for chacking it out for me, and giving thoughts. Ill just sue Brembo once.

I just had my brakes done, akebono pads and brembo rotors from ECS tuning. Great set up. The shop that did the install (wife does not let me work on her X5) like the setup and after the test drive they loved it. This setup is just a few dollars more than the brakeperformance and i trust the brembos more that Centric knock off's

What gets me is that the rotors on the breakeperformance.com are lifetime warrantied including warping etc with free pads.
Ive been debating either the ECS kits with the akebono pads or the breakeperformance. the prices are almost identical once you go with the premium pads at brakeperformance. |

The pad warranty only covers defects. There is no service life warranty. Check out the restrictions on the rotor materials warranty (which is lifetime)
The warranty isn't that bad, but it isn't as good as I get from my local suppliers, or my dealer. |
I went with the ECS kit over the brakeperformance is my wife and kids ride in the X5 all the time. I wanted something I could trust. I can stop a car without brakes, I don't think my wife can. She would panic till she hit something, I woud do a controlled crash or rub a curb till it stops. It looks like brake performance buys their rotors from the same factory Centric does by the specs being the same.
