Check the wiring harness for the door where it leaves the door and goes to the door jamb (near the hinge). Unplug it and look for corrosion. It is the common point if nothing electrical is responding. It is near the footwell, and so might be what the dealer was referring to.

Thanks for response JCL ,,, I noticed at the night I get a light on the window switch and little light inside the door opener, other than that nothing is working. Sounds like I can't do it Myself,,, Going to investigate :))))

lock actuator symptoms

What are the symptoms of a failed actuator? I havent had any problems locking and unlocking yet but i am sure it will happen one day. I have now replaced all four window regulators so i should be good for another 100k. I spend more time with this X5 than I do my wife.

the unlocking problem you mentioned is pretty much it.i have this problem but it's not worth the fix in this weather.the bigger problem is the broken door handle on the front passenger side...

My symptoms were a particular door lock unlocking/locking slower than the rest, and sometimes not unlocking/locking at all the first try. So i'd lock/unlock again and it would work.

I noticed it for at least a month before I replaced the actuator, and during this time it did not get worse or better, the actuator itself never failed completely. Replaced it and now all doors lock/unlock every time and at the same speed.

lock actuator was weak then plastic broke

2000 X5 Passenger Side Door.

My lock actuator was weak for about a year, sometimes it worked, so I ignored it.

The result of not replacing the weak motor caused another problem.
When the lock did not go up electronically with the motor, I would use the inside door handle to raise the lock.

This worked for about a year until the plastic snapped/broke where the cable attaches to the assembly.

Moral, if the actuator weak or intermittent, replace it before it becomes a bigger problem.

Note, I disconnected the battery to be safe given the air bag removal. I did not unplug the air bag. I would not unplug the airbag cable even with the battery disconnected. Hang it, leave it alone, and be very cautious not to damage or disturb the assembly.

Looks like I waited too long to do my actuator - rear driver side door won't open with fob, unlock button or manually from the inside. Anyone have tips for getting the door opened so I can replace the actuator?

Its basically the sme as the front. You will need to remove the door panel and then access the assembly. A little more work is required if you have the read shade, but the vertical shade comes out easily first and then the door card comes out with a swift push up.

I have a rear driver actuator from my part out if you are interested., you will just need to cross ref part numbers from an 04 4.8is to an 01 4.4
