Thoughts on this non-DSP Sound Upgrade?
Dice iPod kit is on the way and I have been itching to upgrade the sub-par sound system. I don't want to break the bank - maybe $1000 including install. Anythoughts on this package from JL:
JL Audio Single 10" WX PowerWedge MAX Car Subwoofer for $299 http://mobile.jlaudio.com/images/19107.jpg Front Door: JL Audio TR650-CSI 6.5" Evolution™ TR 2-Way Component Car Speakers for $189 http://www.al-eds.com/images/P/TR650_CSi.JPG Rear Door: JL Audio Evolution™ TR 6.5" 2-Way Coaxial Car Speakers for $139 http://www.al-eds.com/images/P/TR600_CXi.JPG Estimate $200 for installation? Not sure, but that would only bring the total to $830. Any thoughts on this? |
I would look into a different set of components than those JL's. Diamond, MB Quart, Infinity, and Boston all make components that sound better IMO and are around that price range. The Sub setup looks promising.
You might be content with just swapping out the front components and adding a sub. This is considering that your rear speakers are still in good working condition. Whatever you do, don't look to purchase a component speaker that requires a lot of power to produce good sound. I have Diamond D363.5 components in my front and rear doors and am pleased with the sound they deliver using the factory stereo. |
Thanks. I was ready to buy this package but was convinced to go the BSW route. Should have everything installed next weekend.

BSW has great Plug-n-Play drivers. If I'm not mistaken they use Rainbow audio drivers, or at least they used to. Just make sure you add sound deadening to your doors if you want good sound out of those mid's. I'm running a set of CDT audio in front component set in mine. I kinda wish I had found out about BSW before I installed my CDT drivers, just incase I sell it I can plug in the OEM drivers.
