Blown engine antifreeze in cylinders (looking to sell)

Driving, car gets low power symptoms, within one more traffic light idle is rough, within next traffic light temp climbing fast, and I shut the car down with a hissing sound in the last 10 seconds. The car never did a huge overheating show but was steaming.
Once at the indy shop I watched them diagnose. When doing compression check antifreeze shot 10 feet in the air during crank out of a couple cylinders. So engine is dead.
Get this. The shop replaced the alternator the day before but swears it's not related. (3.0 non water cooled alternator). They offered half price labor on a engine swap if i want ($50 an hr 20 hrs). So 1000 in labor plus 3000 for the engine with a 1 yr warranty.

Looking to sell instead.

3.0 with sport package. Body in great shape. 180k miles.

any advice and offers. In Baltimore, MD area.

It is a 2001

good luck! maybe you should also try ebay

Jhodor 06-08-2011 09:44 AM

already did. Best you can get an engine is 2000 w/o warranty. 3000 with warranty. I can put car as is on ebay.

the shop should warranty their work so if 2g w/o warranty and 3g with i say try a diff. shop.

i assume that your car is in excellent condition besides blown engine. realistically how much do you want for the car as is?

rear air level suspension sensor needs replaced. Dealer said $350. compressor works fine with the rest of that system.

a couple pixels out on radio.

Other than those its in pretty good shape. and as noted new brakes, rotors, battery, and tires.

$4000.

My friend Audi 1.8T blown a timing belt, the engine swap cost (labor and engine) was $3500, and that was 3-4 years ago; I doubt you'll see significant saving by going to another shop, but won't hurt to try. Makes me wonder if that mantra rings true, "never own a BMW out of waranty"
