Evaporator replacement DIY

1 Attachment(s)
Attached is a DIY guide to replacing the Air-conditioning Evaporator on the E-53. It assumes you have a copy of the Bentley X5 Service Manual and covers what is not included in the manual. Use the guide at your own risk. Enjoy and good luck.

Hi John,

Sorry for my english but I'm a french guy living in Guadeloupe French West Indies, a little island in the caribean area.
My name's Arnaud.

I'm a X5 E53 3.0 DA owner and I got a A/C issue, it is blowing but only ambiant temperature, not cold.
The rear air vent doesn't blow anymore...
I noticed that my aux fan doesn't turn anymore and I can't ear the compressor "clic" anymore but still, I can see the compressor clutch turning.
I only have cold air in the evening or in the morning when it's not very hot outside, but it isn't as cold as it was when the A/C system was OK.

I removed the FSR (final stage part) but I don't know how to see if it's good or not...

I made someone make a R134 recharge but it doesn't works as well as before.

I was told I might have a leak from the evaporator and I have to remove the dash to access to this part.

I read with attention the PDF you posted but I'm looking for the steps to remove the dash from the beggining to the end.

Have you got the pictures and a description of this DIY please ?

Well I really don't know what to do and I'm affraid I will have to change the evaporator and perhaps the aux fan or/and compressor, but I really doubt that all this parts are bad in the same time...

Will you please help me and telle me what to do if you can ?
Here is my email address if you want to answer me on a private address : [email protected]

Thanks.

Regards

Arnaud

Sorry I don't have a DIY for taking of the instrument panel. The Bentley Publishers E53 Service Manual has that information. The BMW TIS Online Repair Manuals at BMW TIS Online Repair Manuals . Is also a great source and has most of the information you will need and is free. Good luck.
