NYC x5er needs help
 

hi folks.. last week my x5 computer decided it needs new brake pads.. called the stealer and asked worst case what would 4 new rotors/brake pads cost.. reply 1000+

WTF!

Since i'm outside of the waranty, i found a local shop which would do the install for 200$ if i supplied the parts.. i found a few places on EBAY that sell brembo rotors + pads for 250-300.

Local shop said they would install. I asked about the sensors he said supply and we'll install..

but, he does not have a computer to reset the computer. My computer states " check brake linings" and the (brake) light is on..

So on ebay i found:

Anyone in NYC/SI/Brooklyn who can suggest any ideas or help me rest the computer?

can't you just go to the stealer to hvae them reset the computer?

you can also try Jefferson Auto in Manhasset, I think that they have a BMW computer.

Careful with the Fleabay "Brembo sets" Some of the crap they pass off is cheap ass "made in China" stuff that will warp after a year, happend on my friends X, away...make sure you do your backround check on the seller and check the feedback.

When I replaced my rear brakes, the brake lining warning was still on the display. Even though it did not look very worn, I had to replace the sensor. The computer reset itself when I put the new sensor in and started the car.

Correct, the service indicator will reset itself after a few miles of driving. As a rule of thumb, the sensors should be replaced when changing brake pads.

I have also heard horror stories about the "Brembo" brake rotors on eBay, if your X5 is a daily driver - you're best going OEM parts.

Yes, agree. No need to reset the computer after doing the brakes. Replace the sensor and when everything will be fine. Good luck.

yes they do reset it self, i did the same, i got brembo crossdrilled rotors and axxis pads, very well worth the money :thumbup: :thumbup:

i got 2 choices to install my self or have a friend shop do it for $180
if i have it done by the shop it will be a total of $ 720.21
not bad, the dealer wanted $1,100 to do the job and keep in mind that this new rotors are better than the OEM........

so i saved a lots of money and have better breakes tham the OEM one

The same thing is happening to me currently...BMW-stealer wants 520 for the rear change ( pads/rotors/sensor). I work at a Honda dealership so I can just have one of my buddies in the shop do it for me (best guys to know in the dealership).

I'm now trying to figure out what I want to replace the OEM stuff w/. I was looking at the brembo stuff on Ebay but think i'm going to go the route of Import Replacement Parts...previous posts have been happy w/ their quality and I believe the ebayers could/would use inferior parts. I want improved stopping power and I obviously want it to look good....Axxis Deluxe pads, Brembo slotted/drilled rotors, still debating on painting the calipers (i want to see pics). Hopefully in the summer I can talk myself into spending the money ona new set of tires and wheels. I hate the OEM tires....no gouda in KC winters!!!
