I have read somewhere that people are often Low on tranny oil after change and that is being killer to their trannys. It had instruction to crank it up, turn it off and it will add more... do it few times. then you have to move to gears about 3 sec, turn it off and top it again. untill it can't add any more. Good luck

There is correct procedure to fill it and get the level right, but it isn't just about filling the clutches, it also involves monitoring the temperature of the fluid. The procedure is on this site.

Does someone know if a 4.4i and a 4.8is transmission are interchangeable?

According to 'realoem', they have a different part #, but, if I look on websites where they sell rebuild kits, the same kit is sold for both models.
It must be a very small difference, but what?
Someone knows?
Thanks.

Rebuilt my 5hp24 (03, 4.4i) and now that I know what is in there, I have decided that I will replace the fluid every 30k miles. I can't think of any reason not to but a lot of reasons why I should.

Now, if only I could find the time to do my 4.8iS trans flush......

do you drop the pan and change the filter, or just do 4-5L of fluid change?

No, TC are different as far as I have read.
Lemans, it might not fix the tranny problem 100%, but it will surely make things smoother.

Sorry, I'll do.
I tought that it was not worth a new thread just for that, and since the discussion was about ATF fluid change, that usually leads to tranny problems or rebuild, it was an added information to our knowledge.

It's cool. I've just searched about 3 dozen threads prior to making this one, just to find out fluid types and amounts, and all the info was spread through a bunch of long threads.... I'm hoping to make a sticky thread for 4.8is owners, since there isn't much out there for us 4.8'ers!
