Towing Wiring Harness.
2004 X4 4.4i. I need the wiring harness for trailer towing. It seems like I need the entire thing including the module. ECS tuning has the part but it is on back order. E trailer shows a part, but dont know if it works.
Need advice!!!:dunno: Thanks, |
Call your dealer to see if they have the OE wiring kit (separate from the hitch kit).
The E Trailer part can work, but it isn't specific to BMW. It doesn't plug into the module holder, you have to splice the individual wires in. It also doesn't disable the rear PDC. |
Check BavAuto for the OE harness, got mine from them last summer, at about 30% off the dealer price.

Are one of these the harness you are looking for?

I think OP is looking for this.........

ECS:
No, the OP needs the trailer wiring kit. Your number for it is 185391, for $157.49. You currently show it on back order. Perhaps you could answer a question though. That part above shows the white wiring module that plugs in to the vehicle, as part of the kit, in the photo here: BMW E53 X5 N62 4.4l > Exterior > Trailer > ES#185391 Wiring Harness - 71600009698 However, the description there says that the Siemens module is required as well. Then you list 169157 as the plug in module by itself, for $144.53. Are both in fact required, or does the first kit include the module as shown in the photo? Over $300 for the wiring kit seems pretty high, given your full hitch kit price of $429.17 includes all of the wiring kit as well as the hitch. |
OK, I was hoping he'd get lucky and only be needing the connection wiring from the harness to the trailer. Unless his dealer has it in stock on their shelves it is going to be very hard to find that exact kit. The part number for that particular kit is 71 60 0 009 698 and shows as no longer available (NLA) in our BMW inventory data base. Our prices on genuine BMW parts reflect the actual cost of part, we have very little margin on these parts, and the pricing on them is mainly controlled by BMW. I will look further into how we have that particular product set up and get back to you shortly.

Fair enough, but it isn't really a pricing question. The description shows the module included, and the text says it isn't. One of them must be wrong. The pricing just suggested to me which one it was, but either way, could you confirm if the wiring kit includes the module? Thanks.

The ECS tuning part#185391 was exactly what I was looking for but they have it on back order. Bav auto dont have it either. Now, the dealer has the entire wiring harness kit plus the module, but they charge $400 plus for the whole thing. I went to the E-trailer site and bought an universal trailer wiring harness for $75.00. Got it installed last night and works perfect.

When I got the e-trailer wiring kit, with instructions that were not vehicle specific, saw that it spliced into the taillight wires (no way to connect in at plug behind spare tire, that made me wonder if the kits "designer/electrical engineer" was even AWARE that the plug exists!), made no provision to secure the plug receiver near the tow hitch, did not disable PDC, powers the trailer lights thru the rear light harness (OEM kit powers off the battery only), I promptly ordered the OEM wire kit with module. I would have sold you my kit at 1/2 price!
