try fixing the remote with a battery replacement for about $15. if that works you'll be able to roll the window down and get in the car.

Once the window is down since your issue is with a front door, this may help

Incidentally, I have an issue with my back door and cannot use the above fix due to the quarter window. Anyone have any suggestions?

I swapped out the battery, and the remote is inoperative. Is there a special trick to roll down the window?

do you only have one key????, if your remote is working you can press and hold the unlock button and if you hold it pressed long enough all the windows roll down and the sunroof will open, its a great trick on a real hot day.

also in Australian delivered cars holding the lock button closes all windows and sunroof

really cool if you get out and forget to close the sunroof.

bingo

I pried the corner of the door open, was able the hit the center console lock button and used an specialized tool (coat hanger) to pull twice on inside door handle.

So now I know how to break into an e53. Need not fear, I own both a E53 and an E70 so I have no need to mess with yours.

Thank you everyone for your help on this.

Happy T-Day

how about just holding the unlock button on your key??? if you keep holding it, all the windows and sunroof will open ;)

The remote on the key no longer works. Oddly the battery is juiced but something else is keeping the remote from functioning properly. That is the next project.

3 options left. Get your hands on a lockout kit. ( know any firefighters?) call a locksmith. Smash a window(with your head)

There's a key re-program/reset method on here somewhere, or youtube it for a visual aid-there's some bloke with a 5 series (if my memory serves me correct) but its the same method. I needed to do it on mine a few months back. All good now.
