Door lock actuator failure
The front door lock failed last night and the remote has been failing for months. I am now locked out of the x5. The good news is the it is safe in my garage. I am thinking about taking a slim Jim to one of the doors to get back in. Has anyone had any luck with a slim Jim? Which door is best?

What is wrong with using the Key. I am noob in the X5 section. But interested in how to get in the car in this situation.
|
The key just turns. The connector between the key lock and the actuator must be broken.
|
So is there no other way to get into the car? How can BMW do something so retarded? There has got to be a way to get in.

See if the rear hatch opens with the remote

Try replacing the battery
try fixing the remote with a battery replacement for about $15. if that works you'll be able to roll the window down and get in the car.
Once the window is down since your issue is with a front door, this may help http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-fix-pics.html Incidentally, I have an issue with my back door and cannot use the above fix due to the quarter window. Anyone have any suggestions? |
What about a trusty ole Slim Jim to open the locked door?
|
slim jim wont work but there is another way thru the door jamb. just not sure if its appropriate to post here. its not like every car thief doesnt know it. they normally dont go for older bmws though cause of too many maintenance problems... just kidding
