I wouldn't even *think* about it :yikes:

It's not that hard, just time consuming.

Lots of large tubing! I feel even safer now haha

Might do it on the weekend just for fun

Hey Helmuth, its not that bad. I was really expecting it to be a difficult job, but it ended up being just tedious job. But with the help of the Bentley Manual I made short work of it.

Seeing that the dealer gets about $4k for the job, I will DIY if my dash ever needs to be removed!

Just keep all the screws labeled in bags. Other than that, can't see it being too complex.

Why are you guys having to remove the dash?

TiAgX5 12-20-2011 10:53 AM

Blower fan replacement.

SlickGT1 12-20-2011 11:09 AM

damper motor replacement.

Helmuth 12-20-2011 07:52 PM

Sigh...mine chatters once in a while during these cold months. I'm dreading the day it finally fails :(

I did the blower motor in my E38 last year about this time. That's pretty much what my 740 looked like when I was doing it...minus the missing steering wheel.

Like others have said, it's not a particularly difficult job, just time consuming and tedious.

That being said, my stealer wanted $2K to do the blower motor, and I did it for about $300 in parts, so my day was certainly worth $1700.

Mine makes a chirping sound during the last dozen or so revs as it spins down to a stop. I am ready for this DIY when it finally fails.

Anyone have links to a good diy? I may have to do this as the heater core of my 4.4 seems to leak. Haven't checked yet but is definitively coming from there.
