The fluke is 20 years old but top of the line. I use it critically and have it checked every few years. It is 99.9 % accurate.

Thanks, I hope this is the end of issues for some time. (mechanic said it needs a trans mount which I ordered).

Yeah, had a very similar issue with my wifes X5 with all kinds of weird errors. Trans Failsafe, etc. This was 4 years ago and I replaced the battery and alternator and have been free of issues up until last weekend. Already replaced battery but still having issues. Next is the Alternator and I'm sure my problems will go away.

Also, our X5 has to be warmed up for a few minutes or the tranny slips bad. I too don't believe about the lifetime trans fluid. Gonna look into replacing the filter/fluid soon.

Your transmission is slipping and you have a trans failsafe--why do you think the problem is the battery or the alternator?

Have you done any troubleshooting or had the computer read for faults?

...because the trans slipping has been going on for over two years, that's why. It's not related.

I read your post again. I see you weren't asking for input. OOPSIE

I was merely trying to help.

Your first response to my post sounded defensive that is why I read your original post again and then interpreted you weren't asking a question you were commenting that battery didn't fix the problem but you are sure the alternator will.

OOPSIE was intended as an apology for suggesting you needed help when your post didn't ask for it.

Your post is entirely out of line.

Yes, there is always one on every forum.

Sorry man, didn't mean for it to be defensive. I was merely pointing out two issues my wifes X5 is currently having and has had. Chasing electrical gremlins on these cars are usually tied right back to the Alt and then Battery. Trans comment was just adding another issue spoke about in this thread. So, google my username and you'll see I belong to many forums and that my sole goal on these forums is to help and find solutions for others to benefit. No need to continue :stickpoke

Removed my Alternator tonight. Removed the Voltage Regulator from the Alternator to get a part number. Just bought a new Bosch Regulator for $45.99 shipped on eBay. NAPA wanted around $145 for one. :nanana:

Since I don't like to leave topics unfinished. Here is what I did. I installed the Bosch Voltage Regulator and reinstalled the Alternator. Checked charging was spot on. Got around 13.9 average at battery while charging. With car off, got around 12.5, keep in mind there is the Carputer powering down and all the interior lights are on. We're good to go now on a good battery and alternator.

Got another code. P0102. Maf is dying. It was just replaced 9 months ago, got a replacement under warranty today and installed it. Removed code. Took it for a test run, she ran as she did right off the BMW Dealer parking lot. All fixed.
