Homelink on My X5 communicates with my really old garage door opener

Homelink on My X5 communicates with my 1987 garage door opener, where can I find a "hand held" remote that can do the same? I have tried four remotes and none of them work, my 2002 X5 can do it, so is there a remote that can do the same? You know learning the code. My garage door opener has 9 pins, but obviously my X5 didn't care for them.

Any ideas?

Skylinkhome.com - Universal Transmitter for Garage Door Opener

somewhere there is a good start.

Why don't you match it to brand and go from there. I have a craftsman opener, I purchased 3 remotes from craftsman. Oddly enough, all 3 seemed to take the program. Different brand ones didn't want to.

right, I realize I didn't give much details... I have a Touch N Go (by Overhead), went to Overhead and they could not give me one that would work. I still have one that works, i have to stick my finger to press the tiny button, and it's taped all over with duct tape, however it works. I used it to program my X5. I am trying to get a new remote that is not so crappy for my other vehicle that does not have Homelink. I know this is not a car subject, entirely anyway. But the question remains, can I get a hadheld remote that can do exactly what my X5 did? To learn the code from my old remote?

try looking on eBay, you may find one that matches what you need - Overhead garage door opener remote | eBay

Try any homelink one. The ones that seem to work on all my garages are by craftsman. The little Fob they sell in the store. Cheap, and learns just like the X.

Craftsman uh? I thought they would only work on Craftsman Openers... I actually saw a few that say to be "homelink compatible", is that waht it means? that it can learn the code the same way my X5 homelink did?
