Dash problems after jump start

Two days ago I had a battery failure and got a jump start. I used the set up under the hood (X5, 2002, 3.0i). Since then, the message area on the dash, the fuel gauge, the tachometer and transmission gear messages have not worked and probably others I haven't found yet. Any suggestions except (1) don't jump it again or (2) use an axe next time ??

Check the fuses in the glovebox

Thanx. But I already did the glove compartment fuze thing with a multimeter....no luck. All said fine. I hope it isn't a failure in part of the computer.

did you test both sides of the fuse with a multimeter? You know that one side has the power IN, the other side is power OUT.

When the battery goes, it does weird shit. You might have to disconnect the battery, and try to have the car reset.

I was under the impression that it would reset when I changed the battery.....wrong? OR, would it be better to do it again?

Deff do it again. Lots of little things go haywire when the battery dies.

Maybe the battery is weak. If you are sure the battery is good, then disconnect the battery and let the car sit for a few minutes and reconnect the battery to see if everything resets.

OP: have you replaced the battery now? If so, ensure it is fully charged, then disconnect it for a few minutes. Then reconnect.

If you haven't replaced the battery yet, it could be the ongoing source of your problems.

If neither of the above works, then you could have damaged the vehicle electrical system or specific components (like the gauge cluster) with a voltage spike when you jumped it.
