Pink smoke huh. Can't be good. Means the motor is having a BF. I'm in a similar boat. The A/C works still when moving, compressor kicks on, so the cuiruit board is good, the motor will kinda twitch, but that's it. maybe a start capacitor in the electric motor. If anyone wants to send me there bad one, I'll tear it apart and give some love to the forum.

I have had good luck with the cheaper TYC fans found on eBay/Amazon. It was $166 which is less than half what the cheap BEHR units go for. Anyway I uploaded a DIY guide for the E53 here:
