I actually sold my M5. If your unit has DSP you have to do one of the work arounds. I'd suggest following with blkxer did exactly. His setup was perfect and clean. My unit was an android version and worked well till the day I sold the car. The metrics unfortunately are there to stay. The reverse sensors did work in the car. The screen updates kind of slow when you are backing up (i only had reverse sensors on my M5) which could be a hazard. I purchased an e60 M5 and it has this same feature on the idrive and it updates super quick and all of the sensors are extremely accurate. All in all the unit was some what cheap and the menus didn't all match as I felt they should have for nearly $1,000 a unit. That's like buying a pioneer unit and just cutting your losses. You shouldn't have to do that. The units were all designed for non-dsp cars. If your car has dsp you might want to wait for them to refine it more or explore other options (of which i'm sure there are still none as good as the dynavin).

Let me put it this way... they now make units for the e60 series... My oem setup has okay nav, very few POI, and no 3d buildings. It can't play DVDs and it barely can play MP3 CDs.... Yet I have no desire to install a dynavin unit (at all). I would rather spend 3,000 and install a 2010 oem e60/e65 CIC nav system. At 3X the price it'll retain the OEM features and I won't have touch screen, but it's something I would prefer. Different strokes.

it sounds like tho hart disapointed in the Dynavin unit. could you give me some specific downfalls the unit has or negative experience you had, I dont have a DSP or OEM Navi so any upgrade for me is welcome:D. Anyway i would prefer an upgrade without the problems and head aches;)

For starters my name is Thomas. I didn't say I disliked the dynavin. I was just hoping for more. I owned the v4/5 the d95 and the d99 the first one being the best. They added a bunch of nonsense as time went on. They changed the menus that once matched well to a complete rainbow effect of sorts when you change functions. All of this for a whopping $1000??? Meanwhile I bought a 8" unit for my girlfriends Camry that does all the same stuff the dynavin does and the system is more refined and matches the car itself. Weird I only paid $350... Is the dynavin worth the extra $650?? You be the judge. The lack of good competition in aftermarket headunits for these cars is non existent which is why you won't see worthwhile updates or good refinement.

Or in my opinion... Bang for your buck.

Ok, if i understand you then its that, ur not disapointed in the unit but at $1000 it does not deliver any more than a $350 + unit. and i also agree that there is not much of a competition in quality aftermarket units for these cars. my final questions are did you get it to display standard mesurements, what about OBC functions and is the whining/feedback you experienced only with cars with factory DSP.

Yes the whine came from my car. With dsp and nav. I am unfamiliar with the outcome on non dsp cars. I have spoken to friends with e46's and regular e39s. Both had problems with their first units and needed replacements. I have sent back 2-3 units myself due to poor quality control and doa units. Just make sure the person you buy from is reliable. Jeff from dynavin solutions is the best to buy from. No questions about it.

Did I mention nobody wanted to buy my car with the unit installed? Due to the aftermarket wiring most people were skeptical about it.

After my E34IT Touring experience where the previous owner installed a high end stereo, but the kids (Best Buy?) that did the install butcher up the original harness by tapping the crossover and amps into it and not using a factory harness plug, I told myself that I would never buy another BMW with an aftermarket stereo.

Wish I would have read this before I started to snip-snip my wires...

Thanks for the excellent post, although 3 years old, I'm going to do this but going to install a pioneer appradio 2. Can you tell me where to get the crossovers you used? Also what model of AMP you are using?
