Resetting the OBC mileage calculation?

My OBC Range and fuel consumption numbers are way off. The Range said 611 yesterday after a fill-up and when I started driving the numbers increased!

I know there's been threads on the computer being inaccurate. Some mentioned there's a procedure to calibrate it. Anyone got some info or links to fix this issue?

It is completely normal for the numbers to increase.

The miles-to-empty is based on your most recent average consumption. If you drive with a light foot on the accelerator that average goes down, so your miles-to-empty goes up. If you start up and drive through town, with a cold engine, then fill up, then get on the highway, the numbers will climb dramatically.

I agree, however, it said 611 miles!? Normally I get 380-430 miles per tank.

While I agree w/JCL in theory, and from seeing my range often climb after a fill, then out on highway a while later. But, I have never seen that large of a number on our E53...500-550, yes; never in the 600s.

Our Vette will show low 600s, after a fill to the brim, and then easing out onto the interstate, and rolling up to cruise speed, after a few miles.

Our X has done 550miles+ on a single tank before fill, but I have never seen '600+ range' show up. Dunno what your number means...a temp glitch, an anomaly, the EPA guessers at work, a politician's promise? ... ;)

I've seen over 600 miles to empty several time on the run from Dallas TX to Spring Hill FL. Have done the 1100 mile run with 1 gas stop. If you drive thru a full tank of gas all highway at under 75 mph and not using the brakes you will see over 600 at the fill up. I've seen over 700 miles to E doing the trip in my 6 speed manual '05 Spt Pkg 330i. The Viper does much worse!!!

I have no sense of whether 611 miles is possible or not. I measure in km. I can see 900+ km on our X3 with a smaller tank so I didn't think 611 was special.

As to actual distance on one tank, not 'range'...
Not suggesting it can't/won't happen, but in all my years of reading here I don't recall a post of a 600+ mile one tank run, on a gas X5.

Possible, though I don't have the inclination or patience, or the flat topography around here to go do an all day run to see if I could dupe that feat.

Fwiw, our best ever tank on the X5; cool October run from NC to NJ, no A/C, speeds under 80, etc.

damn .. after i fill my truck to them top it says i have 330 miles to go..and that drops pretty fast since i have a heavy foot

There's got to be something really screwy with the fuel consumption on it. I reset the mpg and it's up near 23-24. My actual avg mpg is around 17, maybe 20 on long highway trips. I'd just like to recal everything.

Yeah JCL- it's pretty uncommon for my X5 to get more than 450 miles per tank.

Lord. Mine is about 250miles but the computer numbers are higher.
