2005 AUX Install Help

Hello Everyone,

I just bought a 2005 BMW X5 4.4 and it is an incredible machine. I really have enjoyed the V8 power and its smooth handling. I'm coming from a 2003 330i in which I installed a OEM AUX input with no issues whatsoever. I ordered a OEM AUX cable for my X5 with Business CD, no NAV and DSP and have attempted to install it over the weekend but have had no success despite instructions and general DIY knowledge. I only have one plug going into the head unit that has 12 pin connections. I figured I would have to pull some pins from the AUX cable and insert them into the radio harness cable since there in so plug for me to plug into but have had no luck. I have attached some pictures to help anyone identify my problem. Please help so I can finish this project. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The AUX cable has three wires, white and blue, white and red, white and brown.

It looks like you have the incorrect aux cable. Here is the correct cable. You do not have to tap into the radio harness. The cable plugs directly into the rear of the Business CD player.

(Note: Your images were not showing and my editing did not correct the problem so I hyperlinked them instead.)

You have the wrong stuff baby. Get the correct cable. It was under $30 on ECS when I bought it.

Thanks everyone for the replies and info. The plug in the picture does look slightly different then the one I got. Do you have a link for the cable that would work with my 2005 business cd with DSP and no nav? Where on the headunit does this cable plug into? I couldn't see any open plugs on the back of my headunit.

There should be one plug that is not used on the back of the unit. Did you check carefully.

I recently ordered the parts for a DIY aux cable as outlined here...

Aux Input: Make Your Own Cable - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums

Parts have yet to arrive, but it was less than $5.00. I'll do a write up when everything comes in...
