mysterious bluetooth setup

So I have had my x5 for 2 weeks now, and everything is going great. As I have been examing the car, I have been seeing tel- tale signs of a bluetooth system, but I am not sure if it actually has one or not. The first sign was a card that came with the owners manual. There is also what appears to be the bluetooth antena in the trunk, and the built in phone dock is missing from the armrest, even though the vin says it should have one.....the cars birthdate is 06 of 2004, so I know it wouldnt have come factory, but the bluetooth passkey card has a 12.06.2004 date on it. Is it possible that when the original owner purchased he had bluetooth installed? and if so how does it work? thanks for any help you can give

Our 2005 X5 came with Bluetooth. I don't recall if it was part of the Sport package, but we definitely did not add it as an individual option.

Simple thing to do is try pairing your cell phone to it when you turn on the X5. The BMW bluetooth goes into pairing mode for 1 or 2 minutes. The caveat is that BMW bluetooth is not 100% compatible with all phones. For example, we had a Motorola Droid X2 which would not work with the bluetooth, however 4 other cell phones work fine. Motorola support said the phone was not compatible with BMW. Upgraded to Droid Bionic which works fine.

Did all X5 come with Bluetooth equipped from factory? What's the easiest way to check if my X has it or not?

Open left trunk cover. Look down. You see in the first post, the last pic. That silver box is it.

Press menu button on navi, if you see telephone, you have BT.

If you search for BT devices, your phone should find BMWXxxxx.

If you have navi, and BT is not paired, there will be a red button by the eject button.

I have the BMW Business radio, I don't know if that model comes equipped with bluetooh. Perhaps it only applies to X5's with Navis only.

this is interesting. I have navi with bluetooth but can't connect due to my BMW assist being inactive!

Ohhh, is that what it is? Dealer asked if I wanted Assit active, I declined the service? But does the BT not rely on Assist?

IIRC we only had BMW assist during a free trial period when the X5 was new. I declined to pay for continued coverage, and bluetooth works. Occasionally (1-2 times a year) it seems to forget the pairing and I have to pair it to the phone again.

Same with mine. No assist, and BT works, but freaks out sometimes. Remove fuse, pair again, and back to normal.
